Today we celebrated World Book Day, and this year’s theme was “Go All In.” This encourages everyone to go all in with their reading by enjoying books they love and exploring lots of different types of stories. In Year 1, we love reading and celebrating exciting books, so today was a wonderful opportunity to promote reading for pleasure. The children especially enjoyed dressing up as their favourite characters!

We began our exciting day by creating our own bookmarks with our names on them. The children were very enthusiastic about making these, and they will soon be bringing them home to use with the books they are reading.

Next, we attended a whole-school assembly, where Miss Forster-Adams spoke to us about World Book Day and this year’s theme. Afterwards, we took part in a costume parade, showing off our fantastic outfits. It was lovely to celebrate all the different books and characters we enjoy.

After the assembly, we had a very special visitor. Miss Forster-Adams came to Year 1 for a teacher reading swap. We were very excited because she is a fantastic storyteller! She was dressed as Harry Styles, so she read Small People, Big Dreams: Harry Styles to the class and even played one of his songs for us. The children loved this part of the day.

After break, we continued with our writing and created “Missing Moon” posters for our class text Sidney, Stella and the Moon. The children have been really enjoying this story and produced some fantastic posters. When we finished, we “dropped everything and read”, spending some quiet time enjoying books from our classroom.

In the afternoon, we were very lucky to have family reading time. Parents and family members joined us in the classroom for a special reading session. We shared our favourite books and had lots of wonderful conversations about reading together.
