Today we celebrated World Book Day, and this year’s theme was “Go All In.” This encourages everyone to fully embrace reading by enjoying books they love and exploring a wide variety of stories. In Year 2, we love reading and sharing stories together, so today was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate books and inspire a love of reading.

We started the day with a whole-school assembly, where Miss Forster-Adams spoke to us about World Book Day and explained this year’s theme. After the assembly, we took part in a costume parade, proudly showing off our outfits. We had some fantastic costumes in class, and it was so lovely to see so many different characters from the books we enjoy.

After the parade, Miss Siswick visited our classroom for a special story session. She read to us about Dolly Parton, and we really enjoyed learning about her life and achievements. It was such a fun way to start the day and reminded us how books can teach us about inspiring people.

After break, we had our music lesson with Mr Hylton, where we practised our musical skills and enjoyed singing together. It was a lively and enjoyable part of the day.

Later in the morning, we created our own book reviews about our favourite books. We thought carefully about the stories we love and explained why we would recommend them to others. The children shared some brilliant ideas, and it was great to hear about so many different books.

In the afternoon, we made our own bookmarks. The children really enjoyed decorating them to use with the books they are reading. We also picked a favourite character from a story and described them, explaining why they are important in their book. The children shared some thoughtful ideas about the characters they admire and why they matter in the story.

To finish the day, we had family reading time. Parents and family members joined us in the classroom for a special reading session. It was lovely to spend time together, sharing our favourite books and enjoying stories with our families. It was the perfect way to end our World Book Day celebrations.
