On Monday, we celebrated the end of the school year with an exciting trip to Broadstairs Beach!
Our day began bright and early, with everyone arriving at school by 7:45am. After completing the register and pairing up, we boarded the coach, this was our first coach trip of the year which added to the excitement! As we made our way through central London, many of the children spotted famous landmarks such as Big Ben and the London Eye. To make the journey even more enjoyable, Miss Carruthers brought along some movies for us to watch. Although the journey was long, the excitement and anticipation made the time fly by.
When we arrived at the beach, we were all ready for lunch! This was a special moment as we were joined by parents who had travelled separately. Everyone enjoyed their packed lunches while trying to outsmart the ever-curious seagulls! After a short break, we made our way down to the beach.
With shoes and socks off, we felt the warm sand beneath our feet and kicked off our much-anticipated sandcastle competition. In groups, the children used buckets, spades, and plenty of creativity to build incredible sandcastles. A friendly lifeguard even came over to judge the competition and was very impressed with the effort and imagination shown by every group.
Next, we took some time to create maps of the beach. The children observed their surroundings carefully, identifying landmarks such as the cliffs, the sea, the pier, and the lifeguard hut.
After completing their drawings, we had a little free time to play in the sand before the highlight of the day which was paddling in the sea! Although the water was a little chilly at first, we quickly adjusted and had so much fun splashing and playing. Many of us got soaked, but the sunshine helped us dry off quickly.
Before heading home, we gathered together for a very special treat of ice cream! It was the perfect way to end a fantastic day. Our return journey was filled with more films, games, naps, and even a funny moment involving a tumble from Miss McCarry and Mrs Hope, which had everyone laughing!
A huge thank you to Miss Carruthers for organising such a memorable trip, and to all the parent volunteers who came along to help. We are also incredibly grateful to the SVPA for funding our visit to Broadstairs. It was a brilliant way to end the year!
