Today Classes 1 and 2 went to visit the Sikh Temple. We learnt that a Sikh temple is called a Gurdwara. When we got there, we had to take our shoes off, wash our hands and put a headscarf on our heads. We were now ready to go into the temple. We saw a throne at the end of the room and their Holy book was sitting there.

There was a Sikh man there who explained what they do and believe in. We all walked up and bowed to the Guru Granth Sahib and saw the beautiful writing in there. The man then taught us about the Sikh faith. He said that ‘guru’ means teacher and ‘sikh’ means student. They believe in three key things; to think of God, to treat everyone fairly and equally, and to make an honest living.

They then took us downstairs to the Langar Room where they gave us an apple. Everyday they make food there to share with people who come in.

It was very interesting to learn so much about the Sikh faith.
