This week, we had the fantastic opportunity to attend the Marylebone Music Festival, where they were treated to a live orchestral performance of Peter and the Wolf.

Surrounded by children from schools across the area, we were introduced to the magical world of musical storytelling. The conductor brought each character to life by showing us which instruments represented them, from the flute fluttering like a bird, to the deep drums of the hunters, and the soaring violins that followed Peter’s journey.

As the orchestra played, we were captivated by how the different instruments painted the story through sound. It was a brilliant way to imagine the action unfolding, guided by the tempo of the percussion, woodwind and strings.

To round off the experience, everyone joined in with a joyful singalong of ‘Noisy Notes’ which was a definite highlight.

A huge thank you to the Marylebone Music Festival for this inspiring and unforgettable experience. It is not every day we get to hear such talented musicians live, and some of us even recognised it from a past visit. Thank you, as well, to the parent volunteers that came along with us. We hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did!

Which instrument did you enjoy hearing the most, and which character did it represent?

I really liked listening to Peter’s tune. I really enjoyed it even though I didn’t like the loud noises.
