Year 4 had a fantastic time visiting the Globe recently. The students have been learning all about Shakespeare and his famous plays, so it was a treat to see this theatre, which has been designed in the style of the original Globe, where many of these well-known plays would have taken place. The class was led on a tour of the theatre and learned many fascinating facts about both the old and new Globe theatres.  Following the tour, the students took part in a workshop where they acted out scenes from “Macbeth.” The children loved the opportunity to showcase their drama skills. Finally, the students were led to a larger room for an exhibition on stage fighting. They learned about the swords and other weapons used in Shakespeare’s plays and watched as professional fencers demonstrated sword fighting. The students took turns holding the swords (fortunately, they were dull blades!) and wearing the armour.  Both were much heavier than they anticipated.  The trip was educational and interactive, making it a fun and productive way to support our creative curriculum topic this half term!
