After last year’s success, we’re excited to run the Caritas Westminster Advent Giving Calendar again this Advent! Advent is a very special time in the Church — it’s when we prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ. But for many people facing poverty, Christmas can be a very hard time. With the rising cost of living, more families in our communities are experiencing food insecurity. This Advent Giving Calendar invites you to use this season as a time to remember others who may need a little extra help. Each day you can follow along and put together a food parcel to generously donate to a local food project or charity.
What is the Caritas Food Collective?
The Caritas Food Collective is a group run by Caritas Westminster that helps people who need food or support. They work through many local projects — food banks, pantries, food-sharing, cooking programmes, and more — to fight poverty and help people feel part of a caring community through food.
How to use the Advent Giving Calendar
Each day in Advent, look for the snowflake on the calendar — it shows what item to bring that day. Then you can bring your donation to the EYFS walkway, where there will be labelled boxes for you to store your goods. At the end of term our goods will be collected and delivered to people in need. You can bring in goods for all days on the Calendar you do not need to go in order!
