Every Tuesday  Year 3 have class worship and every week there is a different theme. This week our class worship was Advent Week 3: Joy.

We set up a special prayer mat in the middle of the room to be a focal point for our prayers and it included a cross, the nativity scene and a wreath with battery-powered candles. Once we had formed ourselves into a circle around the prayer mat, we listened to meditative museum and took deep breaths to calm ourselves down both physically and mentally after coming in from break.

We reminded ourselves that we were in the third week of Advent and we noticed that two of the purple candles were already lit. One of us turned the pink candle, which represents Joy, on and we reflected on the significance of the candles: God’s light bringing us hope, peace, love and joy.

We were invited to close our eyes and think about what makes us feel joyful. Is it someone or some special people? Is it an event? Is it an activity? Is it a special place? Why does this thing give you a joyful feeling? We shared our things that bring us joy with the class.

A handful of us took turns to read Isaiah 35: 1-6a and reflected on the hope Isaiah’s prophecies would bring people at the time. We discussed why hope is so important? And we reflected on the trust and faith we have in God that he will always keep his word. After saying our own prayers to God, where we told God what we hope for, in our heads, we finished the class worship with ‘A Prayer for Joy’.
