In Year 6, we have been learning about the artist Claudette Johnson, who is a British visual artist. You can learn more about her life and work here.

We have been learning that artists have their own preferred styles and techniques. This year, we have already tried out lots of different art techniques and styles , inspired by the work of artists Paul Nash, Augusta Savage and Yinka Shonibare, and are developing our own preferred styles and techniques.

Today, inspired by Claudette Johnson’s style and techniques, we tried out creating portraits, from life, on a much larger scale than we are used to. We used charcoals, chalks and paints to create enormous self portraits! Some of us really enjoyed it while some of us decided that we much prefer working on a smaller scale.

Which is your favourite artist/artistic style and why, Year 6?
