This week, Year 4 enjoyed an inspiring trip to explore Epping Forest in Essex, located on the north-eastern edge of Greater London.
When we arrived, we had a quick snack before heading out into the vast woodland. After some time to play with our friends, we set off on a forest trail that led us deeper into the woods to a secluded area, where we took part in an exciting nature art challenge.
Working in teams, we were tasked with creating a sculpture using only natural materials such as sticks, leaves, and moss. Each group used their creativity to design the best artwork possible from the resources they could find in the forest. Once we had finished, we presented our creations to the class and explained the inspiration behind our designs.
After all that walking and hard work, we made our way back to the visitor centre to enjoy a delicious lunch with our friends.
In the afternoon, we took part in an orienteering workshop that tested our map-reading and navigation skills. We met Joanne, our instructor, who explained the challenge and shared some helpful tips on how to use a map and compass to find our way. We then set off in small groups with our accompanying adults to locate a series of checkpoints and collect clues to answer questions on our worksheets. The challenge was made even more exciting because we had just one hour to complete it!
After a day full of walking, exploring, and learning, we were all feeling very tired as we climbed back onto the coach for the journey home.
A huge thank you to the SVPA for funding our trip, and to all the parent volunteers who accompanied us throughout the day. We would also like to thank Miss Carruthers for organising such a fantastic experience for Year 4.
Year 4, what was your favourite part of our trip to Epping Forest?
