To kick-start our Enterprise Week, we began with a PSHE lesson all about money and the difference between our needs and wants! We explored the story of Mollie the Cat, who wanted a new pair of shoes, and discussed whether this was something she really needed. This encouraged the children to think about the difference between things we need in our everyday lives, such as food, water and clothes, and things we might want but can live without.

The children enjoyed learning about money and discovering how we use it to buy different things. We looked at a range of coins and notes, talking about how they look different and beginning to recognise their values. We also watched a short live-action drama showing two different endings to a shopping trip, where a child really wanted a chocolate bar after their parent had already said no. This sparked some lovely discussions as we thought about the character’s choices and why it is important to understand the difference between something we want and something we really need.

To finish our lesson, we reflected on what is truly valuable in our lives. We discussed how, although money helps us buy the things we need and want, the love we receive from God, our families and our friends is something money can never buy. This was a lovely way to begin our Enterprise Week, helping the children develop their understanding of money, make thoughtful choices and appreciate the things that matter most.
