As part of our learning about the Sacrament of Baptism, we were very lucky to welcome Father Philip into our Reception classroom today!
Father Philip showed us pictures of St James’ Church and talked to us about what happens during a baptism. He brought in a Paschal Candle and a special shell that he uses to pour water over a baby’s head during the ceremony. We learned about the special words he says when baptising a child: “I baptise you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” He also explained why it is important to make sure the water is warm for the baby!
The children enjoyed sharing what they remembered about their own baptisms and listening to Father Philip explain the different parts of the ceremony. They were very curious and had lots of thoughtful questions to ask him. It was lovely to see them making connections with what we have been learning in class and finding out more about how baptism welcomes us into God’s family.
A big thank you to Father Philip for taking the time to visit us and help bring our learning to life!
