Good morning Year 1!
We have done a lot of Art this year – we have learnt how to mix primary colours to get secondary colours. We have used photography, experimented with different brushstrokes when painting and looked at many artists.
Recently we looked at a painting by Turner and used H and B sketching pencils to create our own drawings of a steam train.
I would like you to look at these paintings by Henri Matisse. They are both still life paintings. This means that Matisse was painting just what he saw in front of him.
The first picture uses brighter colours but I have noticed that the colour pink is used in both paintings.

I like the first painting because has lots of colours. The light colours are pink, green and yellow. The dark colours are blue and purple. The table cloth is beautiful because of the pretty flowers. It’s very colourful.

I really like the still life paintings with oranges by Henri Matisse because I find it more colourful than the other one. Matisse uses the purple colour which is my favourite colour. I also like the basket full of fruits which looks almost real.

I like “Still life” with Three Vases by Henri Matisse because I like the pink flowers and the vases because there are three different ones. I also like the yellow lemons on the table and the table. The picture makes me think of Summer because of the fresh flowers and the fresh fruit.
