Good Morning Year 6!

Nouns and Expanded Noun Phrases

Nouns are the names of people, animals, places and things. There are 4 types of nouns:

Concrete nouns

The general names of things that you can touch (like concrete!)

Proper nouns

The name of a particular person, place or thing. They always begin with a CAPITAL letter.

Collective nouns

The names for groups of things

Abstract nouns

Our five physical senses cannot detect an abstract noun – you can’t see it, smell it, taste it, hear it, or touch it.

It could be a quality, emotion, concept or idea.

Your task:

Firstly, write 2 examples of each of the different types of nouns (try not to write the same as anyone else!)

Write a sentence, including an expanded noun phrase, to describe my sister’s cat (she is called Buffy!)
