Prefixes

Prefixes are a group of letters that change the meaning of a word when they are added to the start. Most prefixes mean a similar thing when they’re added to different words.

  1. un usually means not. For example, unhappy, unlocked, unfair
  2. dis and mis usually have negative meanings. For example, disagree, disobey, misbehave, mislead
  3. re usually means again or back. For example, redo, reappear, redecorate
  4. sub usually means under. For example, subheading or submarine

  19. Miss Gorick, I think in means not or no as it changes the sentence in a negative way.For instance ,happy by adding the prefix un,it makes the word negative and opposite.

  20. Ab- abnormal (away from normal), absolutely (loosened away from any doubt) and absent (away from a place).
    Dis- disobedience (failure to obey rules), dissimilar (not similar), disproportionate, (out of proportion).
    Ex- exaggerate (represent something being better or worse then itself), explore (travel through unfamiliar area), examine (inspect throughly).

  38. The prefix “mis” means wrongly. E.g. wrongly interpreted for “mis-interpret”

  39. Pre means before. For example prehistory means history before now.
