The Ancient Greeks had a unique style of architecture that is still copied today in government buildings and major monuments throughout the world.

Greek architecture is known for tall columns, intricate detail, symmetry, harmony, and balance. The Greeks built all sorts of buildings. The main examples of Greek architecture that survive today are the large temples that they built to their gods. Find out more about Greek architecture here.

Can you design and make a Greek-inspired building using what you have at home? You could use cardboard boxes, kitchen roll tubes or just paper!

Don’t worry if you don’t have the resources to make your design. We would love to see your sketches and designs.

Here are some examples I found. I am sure yours will be just as magnificent, if not more!

Please write a short explanation of your creation on the blog and don’t forget to send a photo.

We can’t wait to see your designs and/or creations. Your photos can be shared via the Homework uploader.

  1. Hello Mrs Avdiu,
I created a Greek temple out of paper and card, rolling the card into strips for pillars and decorating them. For the design on the front I drew the Greek Gods Poseidon, Zeus and Athena.

P.S. how do you post photos on the blog because I want to post the picture of my temple, or should I just send it to the school?
    Thanks.

    Hello Zavan,
Judging by your prior fantastic masterpieces you used to bring in to school, I bet it looks brilliant! You can use the school’s homework uploader: https://www.stvincentsprimary.org.uk/upload-homework/

    I can’t wait to see a photo!

  3. Mrs Avdiu says:

Well done, Claudia! Your design of a Parthenon looks great and I can see you have added the most relevant elements and labelled them. Thank you 🙂

  4. Ms Robertson says:

  5. Hello Mrs Avdiu,
Did you get the pictures of my Greek temple that I sent to you on the homework uploader?
    Thank you.

  6. Mrs Avdiu says:

Hi Zavan. I have posted it today! 🙂 Thank you
It looks fantastic. Thanks for telling us how you made it and about the inspiration behind the design.
Did you find anything tricky or would you have changed something if you were to make it again next time?

  7. Miss Carruthers says:

Wow Sara! Your building looks amazing! Did you base it on a real building or design it yourself?

  8. Hello Mrs Avdiu, I didn’t find anything about making my temple tricky but sticking the columns on took a lot of time.
Next time I probably would have challenged myself and decorated. the columns or roof edges more or added tiles on the roof like Claudia had in her drawing.

  9. Miss Coleman says:

Great ideas Zavan and it’s always good to challenge yourself, as well as looking to others for inspiration. I like the details that Claudia has drawn as well.

  10. Dear All,

I have built my temple with the help of one of my brother. We had a lot of fun to build it together.
We have used a lot of boxes and white paper. Then, we had a look on internet to know how to decorate the temple (to draw door, pillars and so on).
I am posting my picture right now in order you have a look of it! Hope you will like it !

  11. Miss Carruthers says:

Well done Violette, it sounds like you put a lot of work into creating your temple. Unfortunately it didn’t send properly – could you please send it again and then we can show everyone your creation on the blog? Thank you!!

  12. Dear Miss Carruthers,
I have resend it this morning! Did you get it?
    Thank you

  13. Miss Carruthers says:

I can see that you have sent it, but it is opening as an empty file – so there is no picture in there. Very strange. You could try again or email it to the school office and they will forward it to me. I think the same is happening with your geography work. Sorry!

  14. Dear Miss Carruthers,
I have resent the two pictures again! Hope this time it will work ??

  15. Miss Carruthers says:

Ah I’m so sorry Violette, but for some reason it is still not working properly. I’ll see if I can do something to fix it, but it the mean time, please email your photos to the office email address and ask them to forward it to me. Thank you!

  16. Dear Miss Carruthers,
I am sending the pictures to the office to your attention! Thank you

  17. Miss Carruthers says:

We got there in the end! Thank you for persevering as I’m sure everyone will love to see your temples – what a fantastic creation! I love how you took the time to draw in the extra decorations on the top, and the columns look very life like! Well done!

  18. This is a good news! I am very happy you get it!

  19. Hello everyone! I hope that you are all safe and happy! ?
I have done the Greek Temple and I have sent it to Mrs Avdiu.
I hope that you will like mine!

  20. Mrs Avdiu says:

Thank you Nika. I have shared it in the gallery. It looks absolutely remarkable! Well done! Did you find anything challenging?

  21. I have made a Greek temple and I found the column sticking the hardest because it kept falling off.

I have sent a picture to Mrs Avdiu.

  22. Mrs Avdiu says:

Wow, Marco! Thank you so much for sharing this. I can see this must have taken such a huge effort to ensure it is stable and measured precisely. Just fantastic! Well done 🙂
