Good Morning Year 6 and Happy Friday!

Friday again!? These weeks are flying by.

I was blown away by your outstanding poems yesterday Year 6-so well done! You are such a creative group of children. I cannot wait to read your ‘published work’!

I will put your poems together into a ‘time capsule’ so we can remember this unique moment in history.

Once you’ve edited your writing yourself, maybe you could read it to someone in your family? When you read your work to someone else, it can help you identify mistakes. You need to sit together so you can both see the writing, you can hold the editing pen and read out your work. Your partner will then check it makes sense, check spelling and give ideas to make it better.

Please comment on each other’s work-you are all excellent writers so it is great when you help each other!

We can’t wait to see what you write! Good luck poets of Year 6!

Year 6 I am so impressed with your beautifully powerful poems. Thank you all! I have compiled your poems into a document that you can read through-please click here Year 6 lock down poems

Just to remind you that next week is Half Term so there will be no blogs posted. I hope that you all have a restful week! Some of you have been asking for some mindful colouring sheets, so I’ve attached some below. Hopefully see you all soon! xxx

  1. Hi Miss! Here is my poem:

    Boredom

    Nothing to do,
    This is boredom.
    While stuck at home,
    All so dull.
    Lockdown is tedious,
    Nothing to do,
    This is boredom.

    No cars passing,
    No cabs to count.
    Not a single cyclist.
    Nothing to do,
    This is boredom.

    No noise outside,
    No motorcycles vrooming.
    Not a single police car.
    Only the birds,
    To wake up with me.
    Nothing to do,
    This is boredom.

    Nothing to do,
    This is boredom.
    While stuck at home,
    All so dull.
    Lockdown is tedious,
    Nothing to do,
    This is boredom.

I want to point out that I wrote this on word with a bold and underlined title and less line spacing. This is why it may not come out very good on the blog.

  2. Miss Gorick says:

Thank you Charles for submitting your brilliant poem. I think the repetition of ‘no’ is very powerful and emphasises the feeling boredom. Well done! I have added your poem to our poetry book 🙂

  3. Jeanne Yr 6 says:

Hi Miss here is my finished poem:
    Lockdown time!

    Here we are,
    Stuck inside,
    Nothing to do,
    nothing to hide,

    When day is high,
    Stay safe,
    Stay home,
    Is all we cry,

    It’s Thursday now,
    And clapping time,
    Now it’s Friday,
    Boredom awaits,

    This is life for now!

    But what will happen,
    Will we die?
    I don’t want to,
    I want school,

    But how will it work?
    Will there be,
    Friend or enemy?

    We have to pray,
    We have to hope,
    Please may God,
    Be on our side!

  4. Miss Gorick says:

Wow Jeanne! What a beautifully moving poem-I had to read this 3 times as i found it very powerful. I think your use of questions emphasises the confusion that we all feel during this time. I also really like that you have turned to God in the last verse as having faith in God at the moment is so important!

  5. ??GABRIEL:p says:

    The lifeless streets are empty,
Barely any cars on the rough road.
The colorful and and warm parks are closed,
The houses are full of working people,
    Lonely people, bored children
    Worried elders.
But there is still a spark of hope,
    From the NHS.
    Rainbows are coming our way.
    The lifeless streets are empty,
Barely any cars on the rough road.
The colorful and and warm parks are closed,
    Working people,
    Lonely people, bored children
    Worried elders.
But there is still a spark of hope,
    From the NHS.
    Rainbows are coming our way.

We are helping by staying at home,
    To contain the virus.
    Scientists working hard
    To find a cure
    Or an all life vaccine.
NHS soldiers are at war with an invisible enemy,
    And we must help them.
We must fight for the weak and elderly,
And remember all those who have already been taken.
We should unite and not separate,
To take on this invisible beast
They deserve the encouragement they need,
The NHS know we are proud of them.

  6. Miss Gorick says:

Wow Gabriel-I am so impressed! This is beautiful and such a powerful poem. You have really captured the pain and hope felt during this time through your use of language and repetition. Well done 🙂

  7. Good morning,
    Here is my finished poem:

    Empty

    Everywhere you look,
    Everywhere you go,
    No humans in sight.
    Gatherings and crowds seem alien,
Schools and offices open is madness,
    Empty and deserted puzzles me,

    Everywhere you look,
    Everywhere you go,
    No joy in sight.
Dull and mundane is all around,
Fun and humour is not to be found,
    Disappointment and sadness consumes me,

    Everywhere you look,
    Everywhere you go,
    No cars in sight.
    Roads and pavements are still,
Clean and fresh is the air around,
    Hope and faith lifts us.

  8. Miss Gorick says:

Morning Luke 🙂 I am so impressed with your beautifully written poem. The repetition of the 1st two lines is so effective and you have captured the disappointment experienced by all at this time. I found your final line very moving-we must continue to hope!

  9. Hi Miss! Happy Friday to you too! Here is my poem:

    Social Distancing:

    Stay away from each other,
    6 feet apart,
    2 metres away.
    Don’t get to close,
    Or else it’ll spread.

    1 person from another household,
    And 2 shopping carts apart.
    Whenever greeting, wash your hands,
    And also, wear a mask.

    Now you better watch out,
    You better stay away,
Or else it will come and get you and me.

    It’s the number one rule,
    The number one task,
    It’s simple as this,
    Social Distance.

  10. Miss Gorick says:

Morning Ethan! Thank you for submitting your super poem 🙂 You have written about a very clear message that we hear about all day everyday! ‘social distancing’ is such a strange thing to have to do and you have captured that brilliantly in your poem. Well done 🙂

  11. Good morning!
I submitted my poem yesterday already.

  12. Miss Gorick says:

    Morning!
I really enjoyed reading your poem yesterday and gave some feedback 🙂
You’re welcome to add your poem to this blog if you want it to be in the class poetry book.

  13. Miss Gorick says:

Morning Sergio 🙂 Thank you for sending in your poem about the heroes of the NHS. You have really captured the strength and bravery of doctors and nurses through your use of language. I also really like that you have repeated last line to emphasise our support!

  14. Aryan :D says:

    My poem in called sing.

    Yes there is fear.
    Yes there is isolation.
    Yes there is panic buying.
    Yes there is sickness.
    Yes there is even death.
    But,
They say that in London after so many years of noise
You can hear the birds again.
They say that after just a few weeks of quiet
The sky is no longer thick with smoke
But blue and grey and clear.
They say that in the streets of St. Johns Wood
People are singing to each other
    across the empty squares,
    keeping their windows open
so that those who are alone
may hear the sounds of family around them.
They say that hotels are selling free food
Is offering free meals and delivery to the housebound.
A young woman is busy spreading fliers with her number
    through the neighbourhood
So that the elders may have someone to call on.
Today Churches are preparing to welcome
and shelter the homeless, the sick, the weary
All over the world people are slowing down and reflecting
All over the world people are looking at their neighbours in a new way
All over the world people are waking up to a new reality
To how big we really are.
To how little control we really have.
    To what really matters.
    To sing.
So we pray and we remember that
    Yes there is fear.
But there does not have to be hate.
    Yes there is isolation.
But there does not have to be loneliness.
Yes there is panic around us.
But there does not have to be meanness.
    Yes there is sickness.
But there does not have to be disease of are life
    Yes there is even death.
But there can always be a rebirth of love.
Wake to the choices you make as to how to live now.
    Today, breathe.
Listen, behind the factory noises of your panic
    The birds are singing again
    The sky is clearing,
    Spring is coming,
And we are always encompassed by singing.
Open the windows of your life
And though you may not be able
to walk across the empty square,
    Sing.

This took me an hour to make with some help of my family.

  15. Miss Gorick says:

Aryan! This is beautiful-I am so impressed with your perseverance and creativity 🙂 I am so pleased to hear that you worked with your family (what a lovely idea!) I found your poem very moving to read as your choice of language was very effective. Well done!

  16. ⚜️Jade⚜️ says:

    ⚜️Jade⚜️

    Hello ?
    This is my poem:

    Life in lockdown.

    We see them everywhere,
On windows high above and windows low below.
We see them color the window,
    These beautiful signs of hope.
They sit there staring out at all the empty streets.
They are the only thing that remind us to have more faith.

A girl is coloring her own ready to put it up,
As the day passes by she misses her class.
Her funny and caring teachers and her funny and friendly class.
As the day passes by she becomes more and more bored.
Nobody to play with ,nobody there to make her laugh.
    No Jada,Charles,Sergio,Javier,
    No Lola,Shun,Chiara,Haleema,
    No Laetitia,Eliza,Alfie,Ethan,
    No Timothy,Aryan,Gaspard,Luke,
    No Anahi,Antonia,Ariella,Jeanne,
    No Maryana,Gabriel,Paloma or Elly
But most of all no Miss Gorick or Mrs Healy to support her everyday.

She looks out the window her sad heart beating very slowly what does she see
    Absolutely nothing.
    The city has died
    Boredom,sadness,anger has taken over
    No restaurants,No shops,No people,No city
    This is LOCKDOWN
The whole world seems to have died
But we have to stay strong and remember that we are in this together.
    Boredom,sadness,anger has taken over
    For this is LOCKDOWN.

Now it’s 8:00 and she must clap
    To thank the brave NHS
They risk their lives, they their souls, they risk everything for us.
Everyday they work 24/7 helping those who are sick
Everyday they work and work to try and find a vaccine.
They risk there lives, they risk their souls, they risk everything for us.
So now she must clap for the brave NHS.

    This is life in LOCKDOWN.

  17. Miss Gorick says:

Morning Jade 🙂 Wow! This is a beautiful poem and I think it is very clever of you to focus on yourself but to write in third person. Your choice of repetition is so effective and creates a very moving poem. Like you said, we have to remain strong! Thank you 🙂

  18. Aryan :D says:

    Thank you Miss

  19. Hi Miss Gorick should I do another poem?

  20. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Anahi 🙂 It’s completely up to you but you’ve definitely got a talent for poetry so I would like to see what else you could write!

  21. My poem is called :
    The things the virus brought

The planet used to be dark and dusty,
    Full of people,
    Cars everywhere,
    No matter where they looked,
    The sun hid away,
    Behind the clouds,

Though now there is less pollution in the air,
    More animals free,
Now less pollution is in the air,
That us humans can finally breathe,

    The earth is getting cleaner,
And that’s because of this virus,
Its such a shame we had to have a virus,
To notice how much damage we are doing to our world,
    And so hopefully forever,
There will be less pollution in the air!

☺︎ I hope you liked my poem ☺︎

  22. Miss Gorick says:

Morning Lola 🙂 This is a beautiful poem! Despite the negative situation, you have managed to focus on the hope and healing created by the virus. I found your poem very moving to read. Well done!

  23. Hi miss,

    This is my poem:

    The alps’ wonders

All lays here among gardens, roses, lilacs, trees,
    Here is calm,
    Flowers flourish for evermore,
Stone pathway leading deep into forests, in between roads, houses and ancient uneven stones pilled up into walls,
    Sighing under flowers and earth,
The age of the earth, stones and trees,
    We may not know,
But wonders lay among gardens, roses, lilacs, poppies, trees and earth,
    For wonders lay in nature,
Peace, calm, quiet bird song, all lays in the alps’ flourishing nature,
    Because wonder lays in nature.

  24. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Gaspard 🙂 It is so lovely to hear from you! Thank you for submitting your beautiful poem. I love that you have focused on ‘the wonder’ created within nature. What an important thing to focus on-I feel during lock down many more people have appreciated the beauty of nature. Well done Gaspard 🙂

  25. Good morning everyone!
    Here is my poem:

As I look out the window,
    I see nothing there.
As the sun gives light to all it reaches,
The cool breeze is in the air.

    The birds chirping,
    Their sweet songs.
    They haven’t a clue,
    On what’s going on.

The world stranded in their homes,
It’s a scandal just to step outside.
Yet even with butterflies and bees transporting nectar,
It is crucial to stay inside.

A beautiful world awaits us there,
But we must stay and hide.
    Because with this spreading virus,
We only leave for essential supplies.

As I look out the window,
    I see nothing there.
    Only the silver moon,
The cool breeze in the air.

  26. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Jada-what a beautiful poem!I think it’s so clever how you focused on the animals being oblivious to everything going on around them. A beautiful world certainly does await us and we will all be ready to explore it once we can!

  27. Elly Marron(●'◡'●) says:

Miss Gorick I am writing to say that have already sent my poem in yesterday.

  28. Miss Gorick says:

Elly, your poem was beautiful! I found it very poignant to read but it really demonstrated your maturity as a writer. I will add it to our class poetry book. Thank you again.

  29. I wish…

I wish I could see the plants,
I wish I could see the mountains,
I wish I could feel the animals.

    The emerald green plants,
    The high snowy mountains,
    And all the fluffy animals…

I wish I cold see the water falls, streems, lakes and rivers,
I wish I could see the fishes, whales and seahorses,
I wish I could see the mermaids, dolphins and sharks.

    The sapphire blue waterfalls,
    The cute little fishes,
    And the magical mermaids.

I wish I could see my friends,
    I wish I could see my uncle’s and antie’s.
But mostly I wish I could see my family.

    THE END.

    I hope you liked it.☺?

  30. Miss Gorick says:

Eliza, this is beautiful!I think a lot of us spend time ‘wishing’ at the moment and looking forward to what we can do once lockdown has ended. Thank you for sharing your amazing words with us 🙂

  31. Laetitia says:

Good Morning miss! My poem is a bit shorter than everyone’s so it’s more effective.

    NHS Heroes

    NHS are our heroes
    We just don’t notice them
While NHS are fighting for our lives
    We realise

    How we clap at 8pm
Clueless to what the world would be
    Without them
    We realise

    They don’t wear capes
    They don’t have powers
As we stare onto the empty streets
    We realise

    How we draw rainbows
    And pictures on our windows
    Oblivious to the suffering
    We realise

Not your option to choose from
If you get saved by NHS
    Or you move on
    They realise

    ‘NHS are our heroes
    we just don’t notice them’
    The world realises

  32. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Laetitia! I really enjoyed reading your poem-it is very effective and the repetition or ‘we realise’ etc is super. I think lock down is a time which has forced us to pause and think about what we appreciate most in life so thank you for sharing this with us.

  33. Here are my two free verse poems Miss.

    Colours of Hope:
    Schools with no children
    Parks with no people
    Teachers with no students
    VE day with no victory
    But…
    The NHS has support
    And
The rainbows have colours of hope.

    Struggle but still no victory:
    The NHS struggle to save
    The children struggle to learn
    The adults struggle to work
But when VE day comes there is still no victory.

  34. Miss Gorick says:

This is beautiful Nina-well done! Focusing on the colours in the rainbow is such a lovely idea-It’s so nice that rainbows have become a symbol of hope during this time. Every time I see one, I think of St. Vincent’s.

  35. Covid-19 Centre of London
In the centre of London, the peak of rush hour all is silent,
for no humans nor dogs roam the closed streets,
    only pigeons hang about,
Every 5 minutes a car goes by on the closed street,
The memories of the buzzing times of shopping and laughter are silent,
    Many families have lost,
    Due to the invisible enemy,
    Yet we must persevere.

  36. Miss Gorick says:

Antonia, this is a very powerful poem. You’re right, we must all persevere and continue! Thinking about the virus as the invisible enemy is very poignant. Well done and thank you for sharing your work with us.

  37. ?‍?Timothy?‍?????? says:

Hi Miss Gorick! Here is my poem:

    Life

    You just live it
    Sometimes it sucks
    Like now
    Stuck at home
    But then
We remember all the good times
    And you realise
    That it isn’t that bad
That we took advantage of it
    life is filled with wonders
    We just don’t know it

    And when we realise this
It makes life seem more magical
All the adventures we could have
    All the fun times
    All the good times
    We finally remember them

    But sometimes
    We forget those times
And focus on the worst on the worst times in our lives
    All the bad times
    All the sad times
    They hurt so very bad
    But
At the very end of the day
    THAT’S NOT LIFE

  38. Miss Gorick says:

Hello Timothy 🙂 Thank you so much for submitting your beautiful poem! What a thought provoking piece of writing. You’re right, it is important to look ahead and think about the good things that we have coming.
You have demonstrated real skill as a writer-well done!
