Good morning Year 6!

Well done for your work yesterday

Today we are focusing on Grammar.

For a starter, please complete the questions below in your Home Learning Book.

Please visit these websites to revise the above terminology:

BBC Bitesize: What is a noun?

BBC Bitesize: What are synonym and antonyms?

BBC Bitesize: What are relative clauses?

A contracted form is a grammatical term. It refers to short words made by putting two words together and omitting some letters, which are replaced by an apostrophe.
For example: ‘did not’ is contracted to ‘didn’t’.

It is is recommended we write in non contracted forms in formal pieces of writing.

“Thomas didn’t enjoy his lunch.” – “Thomas did not enjoy his lunch.”

Other examples are: ‘isn’t’ to ‘is not’,  ‘wouldn’t’ to ‘would not’.

The extract from the text ‘Prologue in Prague’ is set in Prague, Czech Republic.

Your non-fiction writing task on Thursday will be linked to this.

In preparation for the writing task, please research the story setting Prague and create a brainstorm of facts you discover. As you are researching, you may wish to write down ideas for subheadings! This will result in a touristic leaflet for Prague. Today, just do the research. The written task will be explained in more detail on Thursday 🙂

In the comments below, tell us what you found out about Prague and write a short paragraph that does NOT use contracted forms in your sentences.

Please proof-read for spelling or grammar errors before submitting your comment! How to proofread your writing: BBC: How to proofread

I look forward to reading your responses,

Mrs Avdiu xx

This is how I imagine it to look and feel like:
