Good morning Year 6,

Well done for working very hard yesterday- I really enjoyed reading your writing!

Today’s English focus: Published Writing

Once you have edited your writing and you are happy that you cannot improve it further, then it is time to publish it! Type up your writing onto the blog so that other people can read your wonderful writing (make sure that there are no mistakes before you send it in!)

Editing and proof reading is so important…probably even more important as the actual writing! We all make mistakes so we must take time to read through our writing again in order to correct our mistakes.

Once you’ve edited your writing yourself, maybe you could read it to someone in your family? When you read your work to someone else, it can help you identify mistakes. You need to sit together so you can both see the writing, you can hold the editing pen and read out your work. Your partner will then check it makes sense, check spelling and give ideas to make it better.

Don’t forget the checklist for your leaflet:

Make sure you read other people’s work too, it helps us all to get better to borrow ideas for each other! I can’t wait to read all your finished pieces

  3. Published writing – Prague:

Welcome to Prague! This capital city gives you a warm welcome. Our tourism-tips leaflet will be here to help you navigate, locate, and explore all the greatest parts of the city. First, a little overview of the place:

Prague is part of the Czech Republic, and is the capital city. It is bisected by the Vltava River and nicknamed ‘the City of a Hundred Spires.’ It’s known for its Old Town Square, the heart of its historic core, with colorful baroque buildings, Gothic churches and the medieval Astronomical Clock, which gives an animated hourly show.

    Onto Prague’s great views!
There are lots of things to see! There are over 100 Top sights (4 star review sights) not to mention the architecture of every building. From Prague Castle, to the tiniest building, every inch of Prague you see is a sight. If you want to see some old architecture, we recommend you go to Celetna’, a historic street and one of the oldest in Prague. It connects the Old Town Square with the Powder Gate. Carrying on from this, going to the Old Town Square would mean you are standing in the oldest square in the historic center!

Want to get some fresh air, and want you kids to go out and play? We reccomend you head to Stromovka, it’s a big park with ponds, paths and play areas. Park not good enough? The Royal Garden is a serene green space, with fresh, grown flowers.

Thank you for reading this leaflet, and enjoy your stay at Prague.

  9. Hi miss, here is my writing.

    Prague

With Prague having wonderful gardens and places to look at. It is a perfect place to visit for a more peaceful holiday. Here we welcome tourists regularly so this leaflet is here to give people trying to have a stress free holiday.
With around 1.2 million people living there and 6 million annually visitors, Prague is called the heart of Europe because Czech Republic is the heart of Europe. It’s also known for its old town square, the Astronomical clock and gothic churches around the city

Now onto great sights of Prague.
Prague is famous for its architecture so while visiting Prague the architecture is one of the biggest parts of your stay. The Rotunda of St Martin, the latest preserved rotundas of Prague It was built in the second half of the 11th century. It has escaped demolition several times in its history. During the Thirty Years’ War it was used as a gunpowder store. The cannonball embedded in the façade to the right of the window is a reminder of the Prussian rampage in 1757. The rotunda is now used for religious purposes by the Vyšehrad ecclesiastical chapter. Another architecture in Prague is The Church of Our Lady before Tyn, one of our most impressive gothic churches and was built in the mid 14s to early 16th centuries. The Wallenstein palace is vast palace complex, the first monumental early Baroque secular building in Prague, was built between 1624 and 1630 on the site of 26 houses, 6 gardens, 2 brickworks and one plot of land for one of the most powerful and wealthiest Czech noblemen of the post-White Mountain period. All of these wonderful architectures would be one of the most memorable parts of your day.
If you then want to find a place closer to nature why not go to the gardens bellow Prague castle it is one of the most beautiful gardens in Prague and is great for kids. If you want to explore more of Pragues nature there are other gardens like Franciscan Gardens or Botanical Garden of the City Prague.

I hope this leaflet is helpful.

Hi Alfie! It’s lovely to see you commenting on the blogs 🙂 I am glad you enjoyed the task.
The leaflet was very helpful and really makes me, the reader, want to visit Prague! You included the key features of leaflet as well as the appropriate vocabulary style. Well done! Just take care with subheadings as leaflets would not say ‘now on to great sights’ as this sounds more like spoken language.

  11. Here is my writing enjoy:

    Prague a city of wonders!

Situated int the Czech Republic, Prague is a wondrous city . Filled with its historical gardens, architecture and parks , Prague is one of the best places to go on a vacation, holiday and even honeymoon.

Considered to be one of the one of the most beautiful cities naturally it would have great places to visit while you are there, such as the Prague Castle the district of Hradcany. There may also be some main points of interest you like to visit on your journey such as The Royal Palace and St Vitus Cathedral .

While you are taking time off of your exploration of Prague you could have some downtime in the many great restaurants in Prague and have the best beer there is!

  12. Mrs Avdiu says:

Wow! You really grabbed my attention with that first paragraph, well done. I love the sentence starter ‘Considered to be….’
This is a great start to your leaflet and I can’t wait to read the rest!

  13. Mrs Avdiu says:
