Good Morning Year 2!

Click here for a printable version of this blog post: English Thursday printable

Today’s English is going to be a little bit different because tomorrow is a bank holiday. It will be to celebrate 75 years since VE Day, and so we will not be posting Class Blogs for you to do, but there will be a whole school one with some VE Day activities for you to do. So, today we are going to be doing all our writing in one day!

Be creative and imaginative – how might you be feeling? Why? What do you normally colour? Give examples.

Even if you have this book at home, and know what the other crayons might be saying, try not to copy those ideas – think about what you use different colours for. How might that crayon be feeling and why? Give your crayon a feeling or emotion and base it on that.

Here are some sentence starters you could use in your letter:

I am tired of…

I like colouring in…but…

When you make me…

This makes me feel…

Could you please…

I’d like to change things by…

Don’t forget that it is a letter, so you will need to include ‘Dear Duncan’ at the start and ‘Love from’ at the end.

I can’t wait to read your letters and see which crayon you’ve chosen to be, how you are feeling and what led you to write this letter!

  1. Dear Duncan,

    It’s me Blue Crayon.

I know i’m you’re favorite crayon but you use me to much!

You use me for oceans, rivers, laikes, clouds, scy and rain!

You use me so much that I can’t see over the clouds anymore!

    I need a rest.

    Blue Crayon

  2. Miss Carruthers says:

    Brilliant Albert!
🙂 Well done for thinking of lots of things that Duncan would use blue for.
🙂 I love your idea of him not seeing over the clouds any more!
T Can you try and write a couple more sentences to make your letter a bit longer? Use the sentence starters on the blog to help.
T Proof read your writing, I think you need a different ‘to’ in your third line.

  3. Dear Duncan,
I am the pink crayon, and I would like to tell that I am feeling sad. I see you using the red crayon ?,blue crayon, purple crayon and green crayon all the time in your drawings. Why are you not using me?
I can draw pink elephants ?,pink pigs ? and you can use me in the rainbows?. I know you are a boy ? and perhaps you don’t like pink but can you please try and draw with me? I would love to be your friend.

Love from your unused pink crayon.

P.S. I can even draw pink sunset clouds ☁️ .

  4. Miss Carruthers says:

    Lovely Marie!
🙂 You managed to make my feel really sad for pink crayon
    🙂 Using questions
T Just a little thing, make sure you have a space after your commas before typing the next word. You would have finger spaces after them when writing in our books.

  5. Marisa M says:

    Dear Duncan,

Blue crayon here I am writing to you because I am very crossed with you . You are using me to draw nearly everything. I am tired with drawing rulers, books, blankets , clothes, maths no problem and leotards. That’s it! I need a rest because I have been working too much and I am so frustrated with my work. I just want to draw the outline of the blue things and have plenty of time to relax.

P.S. I hope you agree with me.

    From Blue crayon.

  6. Miss Carruthers says:

    Fantastic writing Marisa!
🙂 Brilliant use of punctuation – you’ve used commas and exclamation marks really well
🙂 Using because to explain your reasons clearly to Duncan.
    T) Re-read your first sentence. I think you are missing some punctuation and ‘crossed’ might be in the wrong tense. What should it say instead?

  7. Dear Duncan,
I am the blue crayon, and I want to tell you how I feel. I like colouring in different things but I just want a break of colouring blueberries, flowers, jeans, skies, oceans, lakes and rivers. is it okay if I colour different shades of blue.

    From Blue Crayon
    To Duncan

PS. Can I be a teal crayon?

  8. Miss Carruthers says:

    Great writing Layla!
🙂 I love how you have included lots of things that blue crayon would colour.
🙂 You’ve included a PS and a question (although you don’t need another ‘To Duncan’ for your PS :))
    T) Proof read your writing, I think you’ll notice you have missed a capital letter, and try to include a description of how you are feel. “This makes me feel..because…”

  9. Dear Ducan,
It is me, black crayon. I am writing to you because you don’t use me enough. I am bored when you don’t use me.
What about colouring car? wheels, lego boxes or guitare case with me ? I feel angry and jealous as you use the others more??.
    Please use me more!
I am looking forward to seeing you soon.
    From Black Crayon✎.??

  11. Dear Duncan

I am the red crayon and I want to tell you how I feel.
You use me lots for colouring red scissors, tomatoes, butterfly wings, flowers, apples and buses.
I like colouring in the tomatoes because they are round and it makes me feel happy.
I don’t like when you make me colour buses, as they are so big and it takes a really long time.
Could you please use some of the other crayons for drawing your pictures? Then I won’t run out and can have a little rest.
Thank you for looking after me and choosing me as your favourite crayon.

    Love from Red crayon

PS. Tomorrow please can we colour red monkeys!

  12. Miss Carruthers says:

    Wonderful writing Jack!
🙂 I love how you used conjunctions to write longer sentences.

    T) Can you give an example of what he could colour that doesn’t need the red crayon?

  13. Dear Duncan

I am very happy that I am your absolute favourite crayon. But there’s a downside too. I am soooooo tired and small colouring in the sky, the sea, that weird looking ice cream that turns your tongue blue, and what’s more, that guy who you’re so obseesed with’s cap (I can’t think of any other way to put that).
    I need a reszzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…

  15. Dear Duncan,
I am too busy colouring in pink flamingos, roses, hearts and unicorns. I am tired because you use me all day but I’m also very happy because I am going on holiday at last!

    T) What could Duncan do to give you a rest?

  17. Catherine says:

    Dear Duncan,
I am the yellow crayon and I want to tell you how I feel. I am unhappy because you only use me to colour small objects. Can’t you colour large objects? I would like you to colour larger objects as this will make me feel better.
I usually colour small drawings of the sun, rubber ducks, cups, trumpets and bananas. I feel underworked and I’m aching to do more. I would like to WORK, WORK and WORK but in between I do need a break of course. I’m ready to do more colouring!

    Love from,
    Yellow crayon

    P.S. I’m waiting……….

  18. Miss Carruthers says:

    Excellent Catherine!
🙂 I love how creative you were with thinking about your colour and the fact that you only colour small things
🙂 A wonderful phrase “I’m aching to do more.”
    T) Can you suggest some big things Duncan could use you for?

  19. Dear Duncan,
I am the red crayon, and I want to tell you how I feel.

I love me being your favourite colour but please go inside the lines if you don’t mind. I’m a very neat colour. It drives me crazy!

If you don’t stop this I’ll move to Scotland.
    Your very neat friend,
    Red Crayon

  20. Miss Carruthers says:

    Brilliant letter Finley!
🙂 Using ‘but’ and ‘and’ to give more detail in your sentences.
🙂 You are clearly very annoyed if you’re saying you’ll move so far away!
    T) Can you give Duncan some advice or tips about how to use you more neatly?

I am happy that I have a rest but I get bored. You can use me to colour lots of thing like a rhino , elephant, grey teddy bear, grey sport car or a grey football kit. You can mix me with other colours. I don’t like to be bored, I want to be more active. I would like to colour a big grey whale!

    Love from Grey Crayon

  24. Miss Carruthers says:

    Well done Joshua!
🙂 You’ve made a great list of grey things to colour.

  25. Dear Duncan,
It is me pink crayon. I want to tell you that I am not very happy because you don’t use me in your drawings a lot.
I feel sad, lonely and useless. I understand you are a boy and you don’t like to use me that often. I just want to tell you that I am still very important. You use the other colours more than me and I feel very left out. You can use me to colour hearts on Valentine’s Day, flowers on Mother’s Day and pink balloons on birthdays. You can also use me for food colouring such as doughnut frosting! So always remember me when your colouring, OTHERWISE I WILL BE CROSS WITH YOU!

  28. Dear Duncan
    I hope you are well.
I’m writing to let you know that I’m happy you have given me a good rest and I could play with my brother but I think it’s time to give the other colour crayons a nice rest too.
You can use me to colour in pig pigs, pink flowers, pink dresses and pink sunsets like the ones I saw in Bali. I really love sunsets, they make me joyful.

    T) I think you missed a capital letter somewhere – go back and check it. Try to make sure your handwriting is neat and the letters are sitting properly on the line.

  33. Rebecca says:

    Dear Duncan,
It’s Green Crayon. I’ve always been colouring lots of green fruit: green apples, pears and limes.

Please give me different things to colour like nature. If you make me colour more fruit, I’m going to colour whatever I want green.
