Good morning Year 6,

Our whole school topic is: Great Britain. This is the topic the children in school will be looking at too.

Every class will be looking at this topic for the final term.

Firstly, let’s remind ourselves: What is Great Britain?

Great Britain is a geographic term referring to the island also known simply as Britain. It’s also a political term for the part of the United Kingdom made up of England, Scotland, and Wales (including the outlying islands that they administer, such as the Isle of Wight).

United Kingdom, on the other hand, is purely a political term: it’s the independent country that encompasses all of Great Britain and the region now called Northern Ireland.

  1. Hi Miss!
Are the Channel Islands part of Great Britain and/or the British Iles?

  2. Mrs Avdiu says:

Hi Charles, the Channel Islands fall into two separate self-governing bailiwicks, the Bailiwick of Guernsey and the Bailiwick of Jersey. Both are British Crown dependencies, and neither is part of the United Kingdom.

  3. Ok Thanks

  4. Mrs Avdiu says:

    You’re welcome 🙂

Scotland has the most mountainous terrain
England has the least mountainous terrain

  7. Mrs Avdiu says:

Thank you Charles. Was there anything that surprised you from your learning today? I hope you’re well 🙂

  8. I was surprised that so many rivers join others to reach the sea.

  9. Mrs Avdiu says:

    It is so cool, right?!

  10. In the mountainous map, all the letters are the same but one. Is this normal?

  11. Mrs Avdiu says:

I have fixed this. Not sure why it uploaded that way! I entered text boxes so it is more clear now.

  12. Hi Miss!
For some reason the letters on the map are not loading, so all of them look like “I”. Is there something I could do to load the page properly?

  13. Mrs Avdiu says:

Hi Jada – I have made it more clear now. I am not sure why it uploaded like that! I have written the letters in text boxes and saved this as a new image. Hope that helps:)

  14. Sergio ;) says:

    Hi Miss,
I am having the same problem as Jada .

  15. Mrs Avdiu says:

    TASK 2)
Q1) Scotland because I measured the length between each length on the mountainous map and then compared them to find out which one.
    Q2)
England is the least hilly I know this because I compared all the mountains and found out that the letter H was the smallest.

  19. Mrs Avdiu says:

Thank you Elly! It’s lovely to be in touch with you all again 🙂 Say hello to Hannah and the family!

  20. Miss Gorick says:
