Good morning Class 4!

I hope you found yesterday’s maths lesson okay and you’re ready to learn more about coordinates today!

Yesterday I could not post some of your maths comments until a little later as you had found the correct answer to the challenge and I wanted to let other children have a go at it first! But do not worry, I saw your comments and they have been posted now!

A little starter for you this morning…

Can you write the coordinates for your name?

Remember the rule: Along the corridor and up the stairs so it’s x first and then y.
So, my name would be (1,4)(2,8)(5,5)(5,5)   (3,2)(7,1)(7,1).

Next, have a go at these Maths No Problem pages:

Chapter: 13
Worksheets: 3 and 4

If you are working in your Maths No Problem book from school and have already completed these worksheets,

make sure you visit the link in this blog to revise. Then check your answers. Do you still understand the questions? If you’re a little confused, read this blog carefully and log into Maths No Problem to look at the pages without your answers. Have a go at them in your yellow Home Learning Book as it is very important that you review and revise our prior learning to ensure you understand. After that, move onto the challenge.

Plotting Coordinates

Sometimes we can use coordinates to plot the points (vertices) of different shapes or figures, like this:

Can you plot the vertices of each figure on worksheet 3 and name the shape?

(If you do not have your maths no problem book or a printer, just write the name of the shape that would be made in your yellow Home Learning Book and then which a ruler have ago at drawing that shape in your book.)

Describing Movement

This is slightly more tricky. Try to remember when we did this in class. The shape cannot turn but we must describe how it got from one place to another. Remember I am here to help so if you have questions just ask. If you don’t want your question posted on the blog just say and I will write a message to answer your question on the blog addressed to everyone!

Let’s look at an example…

Tip: Pick one corner of the original shape (the blue triangle in this case) and count how many squares from that corner to the corner of the new position (the red triangle).

Remember, you cannot move diagonally you can only move across the x axis and up or down the y axis

    I have found yesterday’s lesson a bit easy, and yes! I would love to learn more about coordinates. I am ready too!
    I have done a treasure map and stated plotting coordinates of where the treasure and obstacles might be!

    Today I broke the code to find out how to say my name in coordinate language! It is (7,1) (3,2) (2,8) (5,5) (1,1). I also did the maths no problem worksheets 3 and 4. Just saying, I hadn’t done the worksheets in my book so I did it with my nanny this morning.

    I figured out how to write my name in coordinate language,(9,8)(1,1)(2,8)(1,4)(7,7)(8,9)(2,6)(10,1). I completed the math no problem ? sheets. For the challenge if you add a X to (1,2) and it is like a diamond.♦️
