Good Morning, Nursery.

Well done for your great number work yesterday.

Today, we are going to compare objects by size.

Here are the characters from the stories that we have been reading for our topic:

Can you say who is the tallest and who is the shortest in each story?

Are there any who are the same height?

What can you say about the one in the middle of each picture?

Can you talk about them using the language ‘taller than’ or ‘shorter than’?

Now, choose some toys where you have three of the same. For example, 3 teddies or 3 dolls.

Can you put them in height order from the shortest to the tallest?

Are there any that are the same height?

What can you say about the one in the middle?

Can you talk about them using the language ‘taller than’ or ‘shorter than’?

I am looking forward to hearing all about your Maths today.

Love from Miss Siswick.

PRINTABLE VERSION:N Maths Thursday

It would really help me if you could upload photos  straight to the media file (instructions are here: sharing photos and files) as they get to me more quickly and easily as they don’t have to go via the office and my e-mail. Please can either your child’s name or face (but not both) be visible on any photos. Many thanks.

  1. Good morning Everyone.
Leopold manage to use the language taller than and shorter than as well as the same as correctly.
We had fun competing all the characters

  2. Esmeralda says:

Esmeralda loved comparing the characters of the three stories.
She found the three little pigs have the same height, while the others’ stories characters have different sizes between them.
Then she picked up three toys and compared their sizes.

  3. Alexander says:

    Good morning Nursery,

Alexander correctly identified the sizes of the bears and the goats in the stories, he got a little confused with the pigs though..

He put his toys in height order and was able to correctly use phrases like taller and smaller than with some help. We have uploaded photo.

  4. Daddy bear is the tallest and baby bear is the shortest. Mummy bear is smaller than daddy bear and bigger than baby bear.

The three little pigs are all the same size.

The biggest billy goat is the tallest and the smallest billy goat is the shortest. The middle billy goat is smaller than the biggest billy goat and bigger than the smallest billy goat.

I used mummys ruler to see who was bigger or smaller than each other. The ruler wasn’t big enough to measure me!

  5. Baby bear, the two pigs and the little goat are the shortest .
The two pigs are the same hight.
The oneS in the middle are standing between .

Daddy bear is taller than mummy bear and baby bear is shorter than mummy bear .

  6. Hello,
Grace said Daddy Bear is the tallest in the tallest, she thought the pig in the red jacket was the tallest so I explained all three of them were the same height and that the goat in yellow was the tallest.
She said the middle bear is Mummy Bear and she was taller than Baby Bear but shorter than Daddy Bear. Now knowing they were the same size she said the middle pig was the same as the others and the middle goat was the smallest. She said Eric (the dog) is smaller than she is!
