The letters that we’ve been learning so far spell out the word ‘s-a-t’.

Today’s task: Can you say one word which rhymes with ‘sat’ so that we can make a long rhyming string?

I’ll start you off:

          sat

          rat

It can be a real word or a made up word (in Year 1 they call them alien words!) such as dat.

Here are some ideas for rhyming words but ask your child if they can think of their own first

  1. I needed help to learn some rhyming words in the beginning, then I remembered some words because of one of my favourite books “Oi frog”………..cat, (the cat sat on a….) mat, hat, bat….

  2. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Sam. I love that book too and it’s great for rhyming.

  3. Hermine came up with the following rhyme for “sat”:
    bat
    hat
    mat
    what
    rat
    cat
    swat

  4. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Hermine. Lots of these words rhyme with sat. Can you say the words ‘what’ and ‘swat’ again to check if they rhyme. (I think they rhyme with ‘pot’ but it depends how you’re saying them.)

  5. Miss Siswick says:

Remember, everyone. You only need to think of one word to add to the rhyming string. It can be the same word as someone else has already said.

  6. Mrs Knowler says:

I am going to try and tape me reading a rhyming book for you later on today. It might be tricky as I will be filming with one hand and holding the book with the other. We’ll see how I get on. I’ll be back later to see how long the rhyming string has got.
