Good Mornings, Reception.

Earlier in the week and last week, we were practicing adding by counting on.

Today, we are going to practice ‘doubling’ by counting on. ‘Doubling’  means adding two of the same amount like this:

To double by counting on, you would say the number you want to double, get the same number of fingers ready and then count on like this: 3…4,5,6.

Look at this recipe. How many spoons of each ingredient do you need?

What if you wanted to make double the amount of biscuits, how many spoons of each ingredient would you need then?

You can record your Maths in any way that you choose.

If you would like to use the recipe to bake the biscuits, the instructions are here. You don’t have to make double the biscuits but you can if you are hungry!

I am looking forward to hearing all about it.

Love from Miss Siswick.

Ruby-Mae use some pens to have more clear how doubling. she find 8 spoon of flour +8 spoon= 16 spoon of flour,5 spoon of sugar
+5 spoon =10 spoon of sugar, 4 spoon of butter +4 spoon =8 spoon of butter.

  16. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Ruby-Mae. you worked out all the doubles using real objects. Can you try the counting on as well to see if you get the same answers?

  17. Ms O'Connell says:

  20. 8 spoons of flour
    5 spoons of sugar
    4 spoons of butter

    Double is

    16 spoons of flour
    10 spoons of sugar
    8 spoons of butter

We think we will make double the recipe because everyone will want two ?

  21. Chiara could double easily the 4 and 5 and we found 8+8 by printing 2 pages .still challenging after using the 10 fingers.
    pictures sent

  22. Madeleine ? says:

Madeleine could count the number of spoon for each ingredient.

    Flour 8 ?
    Sugar 5 ?
    Butter 4 ?

If you double it then it is
    16 spoon
    10 spoon
    8 spoon

Madeleine knows some double without counting like 2+2 /
    3+3 / 4+4 / 5+5

  23. Sibylle says:

    Good afternoon,
    Here are my answers :
    Flour : 8 spoons and 8+8 = 16
    Sugar : 5 spoons and 5+5 = 10
    Butter : 4 spoons and 4+4 = 8
I baked biscuits during the holidays for Easter and loved making shapes ! I used all these ingredients.

  24. Miss Siswick says:

Great doubling; Mikey, Chiara, Madeleine and Sybille.
    Well done all of you.

  25. Philippa says:

    Hello,
We loved the homework, we used blocks to double up and practice.
    The recipe needs
    8 spoons of flour
    5 spoons of sugar
    4 spoons of butter
If we want to do double we have to add the same amount again.
    8 + 8 = 16 spoons of flour
    5 + 5 = 10 spoons of sugar
    4 + 4 = 8 spoons of butter
We will try baking some biscuits this weekend, thank you for the recipe!

  26. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Philippa. I hope the biscuits are delicious.
Try doubling by counting on as well. The instructions are at the top of the blog.
