Good Morning, Reception.

Well done for telling us all about the miracles of Jesus in your own words on Tuesday.

Today, we are going to be thinking more about what happened at Pentecost.

This is from the book of Acts in the Bible:
‘The Holy Spirit had arrived. The time had come for the disciples to  break out of their room and tell the world the glorious message!  Thousands of people listened as Peter told them why Jesus died. People from all around the world heard Peter’s words in their own languages. They were amazed. The people said, “What Good News!” That day, 3,000 people were brought into God’s family and were baptised. It was a beautiful beginning to a wonderful new life for them. Him.’ (Acts 2: 1-6)

The Bible tells us that on the day of Pentecost, three thousand people were brought into God’s family and baptised. Now, nearly two thousand years later, more than two billion people in the world have been baptised into God’s family!

Pentecost is called the birthday of the church. That means, not just St. James’ Church, but the church of people who follow Jesus all over the world.

Why do you think we call Pentecost the birthday of the church?

Can you make a birthday card for the church and write a message inside?

Pentecost will be celebrated on Sunday May 31st but we probably won’t be able go to church to celebrate this year.

Can you plan a birthday celebration for the church  at home with your family?

The special colour in the church for Pentecost is red. You could plan your celebration with red clothes, food and decorations.

I am looking forward to seeing your birthday cards and hearing your ideas.

Love from Miss Siswick.

PRINTABLE VERSION: R RE Wednesday

It would really help me if you could upload photos  straight to the media file (instructions are here: sharing photos and files) as they get to me more quickly and easily as they don’t have to go via the office and my e-mail. Please can either your child’s name or face (but not both) be visible on any photos. Many thanks.

  7. Good morning, we discussed Pentecost and Baptism this morning.
James understood Pentecost was a very important day because the disciples could speak different languages so everyone understood the good new. More than 3000 people were baptised and joined God’s family.

    James.

  8. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, James. Can you tell me why Pentecost is the birthday of the church in your own words?

  9. Good morning!
Pentecost is the birthday of the church because the Holy Spirit was poured out on all those 12 disciples, and then they were really ready to be witnesses.
When i finish my card i will send it.

  10. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Theo. you have thought carefully about your answer.

  11. Marcus enjoyed this task. He says Pentecost is the Church’ birthday as it was the day the Church was born when 3000 people were baptised into the Church family.
He made a birthday card for the Church and made plans for a Pentecost celebration at home with red cups, food, flowers and candles. He made a poster to put up for the celebration (but had help with painting a “Pentecost” sign and the dove as we were short of time before Alexander’s birthday Zoom meet up!).
    We’ve sent photos..

  12. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Marcus. Great thinking about your answer and I love your card and poster. Have fun at Alexander’s zoom party!

  14. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Chiara. You thought carefully about your answer and drew a lovely church picture.

  15. Amber says Pentecost is the birth of the church as Jesus’s friends told everyone about Jesus on that day. Lots of people who loved Jesus started going to Church. Amber’s Pentecost card includes a red heart with a flame, a cross and a red, yellow and orange birthday cake.

  16. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Amber. A thoughtful answer and your card sounds lovely. Maybe you can bake a red, yellow and orange cake for Pentecost day!

  17. Pentecost is the birthday of the Church because it is when, after the Holy Spirit came, the apostles went out among the people and began telling the message of Jesus. It started with 3000 people baptised.
My dad explained that Pentecost means 50th day in Greek. Pentecost is 50 days after the Passover.
    I will send my card.

  18. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Cesar. I didn’t know that Pentecost meant 50th day. Thank you to your dad for that information.

  19. Juliana says:

Hi Miss Siswick, Juliana says that Pentecosts is the birthday of the church, we have sent you a picture.

  20. Miss Siswick says:

    I love your card, Juliana.
Can you say why Pentecost is the birthday of the church?

  21. Because it is the beginning of something like when a baby is born

  22. Miss Siswick says:

Well done, Rocco. I think that’s exactly why Pentecost is the birthday of the church. It was the beginning of people who had never met Jesus believing in him and following him. A beginning is like a birth.
