Welcome to the Religious Education Blog

This blog will include a big question to reflect on about our new topic ‘Pentecost’.

Pentecost

Christians believe that the gift of the Holy Spirit within them gives them energy and the power to live the way of Jesus.  The symbols used for the Holy Spirit – wind and fire – are symbols of power and energy.  At Pentecost, the disciples were filled by the gifts of the Holy Spirit and went out courageously to carry the Gospel of Jesus to the whole world.

Word of God

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor.  He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.”

Luke 4: 18-19

Big Question of the week:

Read the scripture from Luke 4: 18-19 above.

What do you think this scripture tells us?

Have a discussion with your family members about the question and the scripture then write down your response. I look forward to hearing your ideas.

Super Challenge:

How is the scripture from Luke 4: 18-19 lived out in your life today?

  6. The big question
    ————————
The scripture tells us that God is always there for us. I think it’s telling us that we shall not worry for now Jesus is here to save us all. The blind will see again because Jesus is here. We shall not fear for the son of God the saviour will set us free from our sin. The captives will now be free from slavery and live a happy life. Now everyone is happy the captives, blind and the poor. God and Jesus has done this for us it means God and Jesus loves us no matter what.

  7. Miss Jones says:

Excellent responses Clemence and Chloe, you have really thought through your answers. You have chosen some great vocabulary to explain your thoughts.

  8. I think Luke 4:18-19 means that Jesus is always with us and to help us be kinder, thoughtful and also not to judge others. We need to think about others and how we can help them have a better life. My Nan is self isolating as she lives alone, me and my family are trying to reach out more by calling her everyday to see is there anything she needs. Me and my brother made cakes to cheer her up. Like in this gospel we are trying to think of others.

  9. Miss Jones says:

A lovely response Ethan, I love how you have linked the scripture to your own actions. It is lovely to hear that you are helping your family.

  10. I think the scripture tells us God is always with us. We should help poor
people and that even if people are poor God is always with them and that blind people were starting to see.

  11. Miss Jones says:

Great response Alex, the scripture tells us a lot of the actions God wants us to do.

  12. I think the scripture tell us that God is always with us and give us strength and power to tell good news to the people who can’t hear God’s voice and help those who are most in need.

  13. I think the scripture tell us that God is always with us always even in the deepest darkness. He tells the poor the good news and the people that are in jail to be free. He doesn’t want His children to be hurt.

  14. Miss Jones says:

Well done Chloe H and Malgosia, you have thought carefully about your answers. What a reassurance to know God is with us all of the time, giving us new strength each day.

  15. I think the scripture tells us that God gives us the strengths to help the others with the Holy Spirit

  16. I think the scripture tells us that God‘s spirit gives us powers to do BRILLIANT ? things, to help others and other things too.

  17. Miss Jones says:

Yes you’re right Emi and Penelope we are given great strength by the Holy Spirit and we can do brilliant things!

  18. Graceanne says:

    Luke 4:18-19
I think it means poor should be rich prisoner should be set free and everyone should be treated the same way .

  19. Miss Jones says:

Yes, it’s so important we treat others the same way Graceanne.

  20. The Holy Spirit gives us strength to see , hear and talk. It shows
that you are capable to spread the good news and free people .

  21. Miss Jones says:

Good response Louis, the Holy Spirit enables us to spread the news and fill others with encouragement.

  22. Gabriella says:

According to luke chapter 4 18-19
Jesus was filled with the holy spirit and he spoke about freedom for the prisoners and the blind individuals to see compassion and love for the poor, showing the love and mercy of the Lord and his people.

  23. It tells us we believe in God but also in our self. Believing in God gives us strength and courage to believe in ourselves and others especially at tricky times.

  24. Jiana Latif says:

The Holy Spirit to guides us to see, hear and talk about God.

  25. It tells us that God is always in you heart and he is always there to support you in the hard times. This is very important now because lots of people are suffering and we aren’t allowed to see each other.

  26. The Holy Spirit fills us with strength, love and happiness to act as God would love us to do. I think that it is important to be nice and caring to each other and to think of the people who are suffering in this time. Also God is always in our heart when we are sad and scared. Even when we have been rude to him, the most important thing you need to remember is that God will always love us.
