Good morning Year 6 and Happy Monday!

Religious Education

Today, we are starting our new topic ‘Reconciliation and Healing’.

Networks of friendships and relationships enable human beings to live together. However, sometimes relationships can become damaged. Both children and adults have to discover their ability to reach out and repair what has been damaged.

If human beings are to live together in relationships, there is always need for reconciliation.

Christians believe that, in Jesus Christ, the world has been reconciled to God. Through and in Christ, every human being is offered the power to reach out in forgiveness and peace, to receive and to offer reconciliation.

Word of God

St. Paul in his letter to the Ephesians, wrote:

“But now in Christ Jesus, you that used to be so far apart from us have been brought very close, by the blood of Christ.  For he is the peace between us, and has made the two into one and broken down the barrier which used to keep them apart, actually destroying in his own person the hostility caused by the rules and decrees of the Law.” Ephesians 2:14-15

Today I want us to start with two BIG QUESTIONS.

  • Please read the questions below.
  • Think about your answers.
  • Discuss the questions with your family
  • Can you make a link to Scripture?
  • Write your answers below

The Big Questions:

What does reconciliation mean to you in your life?

How do you reconcile with others?

Prayer and Reflection

I have chosen the way of faithfulness;
I set your ordinances before me.
I cling to your decrees,
O Lord; let me not be put to shame.
I run the way of your commandments,
for you enlarge my understanding.
Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes,
and I will observe it to the end.
Give me understanding that I may keep your law
and observe it with my whole heart.
Amen.
(Psalm 119: 30-34)

  1. Good morning Miss Gorick and Mrs Healy!
    Here are my answers:
    1) To me reconciliation means reuniting with God, it means that God has forgiven our sins once more.

    2) We can reconcile with others by keeping our peace and helping others find their peace too.

  2. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Jada 🙂 thank you for your answers, it’s lovely to think of ‘reuniting with God’.

  3. Good morning,

To me, reconciliation means to forgive and reconnect even closer to people after you’ve argued or gotten angry at each other as this is what we are taught to do in everyday life.

To reconcile with others, you have to be sorry for anything you’ve done to that person and then forgive them. If you do this, you are following Jesus as ‘you that used to be so far apart from us have been brought very close, by the blood of Christ.‘

  4. Miss Gorick says:

Morning Luke ? thank you for sharing your thoughtful answers with us all.

  5. Hello Miss!
To me reconciliation means to rebuild friendships you have broken and reunite with God.
To reconcile with others, we can be sorry for what we have done, and forgive others.

  6. Good morning miss.

    1) Reconciliation means to restore our relationship with God. This means that we have been forgiven.

    2) Reconciliation requires honesty. Whether you were rude or offended you must prepare to hear things about yourself that you may not like. This means you have to be willing to admit that you were wrong.

  7. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Nina 🙂 you’re right, reconciliation does require honesty! Thank you ?

  8. To me reconciliation means to be forgive someone that you have argued with. To reconnect and reunite better together.
To reconcile with others is to say sorry to everything you did to the person.

  9. To me, reconciliation means to unite and come closer to God.

To reconcile with others we have to be sorry, and rebuild friendships or make new ones. To reconcile is becoming closer to someone and to be kind to them, as you would be to God.

  10. Miss Gorick says:

Rebuilding relationships is so important-thank you Ethan!

  11. Q1)it means that God can forgive us for all of our sins we have done previously in our life. This is a bit like a fresh start and for us to try and grow in Gods way and follow in his footsteps.

Q2)You can reconcile with others by saying sorry to them, and making sure that when you ARE saying sorry to them and actually MEANING it.Maybe you could give them a gift to show them how much they really care for you!

This was also done with Elly 😉

  12. Miss Gorick says:

It’s lovely that you two are working together today! Showing that you are sorry is so important 🙂

  13. Elly(●'◡'●) says:

Q1)What does reconciliation mean to you in your life
It means to me in my life that I am with God and he can trust his whole heart in me. Also it means that Jesus is living in me me and throughout me.

How do you reconcile with others?
I reconcile with others by making new friends quite often and make sure that they feel comfortable around me. I also reconcile with others by making sure they don’t feel down and if they do feel bad I will help them feel much better.

  14. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Elly ?thank you for your answers-trust is so important.

  15. Hi again everyone!Just wondering,Miss, you said to START off with the big question, but then what should we do next after we did it?

  16. Miss Gorick says:

I see what you mean…it sounds a little confusing! I just mean we’re starting our new topic off with a big question 🙂

  17. Elly(●'◡'●) says:

Following my earlier response for the second question I forgot to say that also I make peace with others if we have been arguing for very long.

  18. Miss Gorick says:

Thank you for adding to your response ? making peace is so important.

  19. Good Morning Miss,
To me reconciliation is when i restore my relationship with God through the forgiveness of my sins. After this you feel the peace, happiness and the love from God.

To reconcile with others i will have to forgive them although they have done something wrong to me as it said in Ephesians 4:32 “Be kind and compassionate to one and other , forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you”.

  20. Miss Gorick says:

Morning Javier! Thank you for your answers-I’m really pleased that you’ve made a link to Scripture?

  21. Laetitia says:

Good morning miss! Here are my answers:

Q1. To me, reconciliation means to forgive and put aside your anger and focus on what’s right. To have a real, strong and personal relationship with anyone you must have a strong relationship with God and to do that you need to forgive; as God forgives us.

Q2. To reconcile with others, you need to truly mean it when you say sorry, and truly TRY to not repeat wrong things. You need to FORGIVE them and LET GO of old grudges. Family is not necessarily blood, and everyone is your family.

  22. Miss Gorick says:

Thank you Laetitia :)you’re right, letting go of grudges is so important!

  23. ♡ Haleema ♡ says:

Good Morning Miss Gorick and Mrs Healy!
    Here are my answers:

1.) To me, reconciliation means to forgive and build up your damaged relationship with that person in the future. To me, that’s what reconciliation means.

2.) Say for example, you got into a fight with your mum, you were the first person to go and tell your mum that you were sorry and then help her out with something to show you were really sorry.

  24. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Haleema! Thank you for sharing your answers 🙂 Showing that you are really sorry is so important you’re right!

  25. Sergio ;) says:

    Good Afternoon
1)To me, reconciliation means to forgive and restore relationships with others. It also means reuniting with God.

    2) To reconcile with others you will have to forgive people to restore your relationships. You will also have to be kind and compassionate if you want to reconcile with other people.

  26. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Sergio:) I agree, forgiveness is very important when reconciling with others.

  27. 1) It means to me when two people (or groups) are arguing and put aside their indifferences.

    2) People should want to reconcile before they can. Some people intentionally prefer to exist in a state of conflict.
One way you can at least try to break down the barriers of conflict is to reason with people. You can pray the disturbed person might enable them to reason.

  28. Miss Gorick says:

Thank you Antonia 🙂 you have articulated your ideas very clearly.

  29. Hello Miss and everyone,
To me reconciliation means that God has forgave the sins that i have done and i can start again.Reconciliation means a lot to me because without it people would stop becoming friends for they will not forgive,we are very different to others and sometimes don’t’ realize that our acts/words can hurt people and that is why reconciliation is so important for we can forgive and learn from our mistakes and can continue to be friends with someone.

You reconcile with someone most of the time by saying sorry and showing that you really do care about them.Even if you have hurt them you have to show that you won’t do it again and that you have learnt your lesson. Most of the time people say sorry and think everything is over but you have to show you care and are really, truly sorry.

  30. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Jade 🙂 I like that you have thought about the importance of showing care. I agree that this is very important.

  31. Here are my answers:
    1) I think reconciliation means to be reunited and having restoration of friendly relationships after a conflict. So you can be forgiven from your sins like the Bible passage Colossians 3:13,’Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.’

    2) You reconcile with others by being kind, compassionate, forgiveful and peaceful like God was in every way.

  32. Miss Gorick says:

You have thought of some wonderful adjectives there Anahi, well done!

  33. Here are my answers:

1)Reconciliation means to rebuild your broken relationship with someone, and to ask God for forgiveness for what they have done to break the relationship.
2)I reconcile (for example) if I have an argument with my brothers, I’d probably say sorry and ask them if they want to play with me, and try to get them to feel better.

  34. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Gabriel 🙂 thank you for your answers. The idea of ‘rebuilding’ relationships is so important.

  35. Miss Gorick says:

Hi Paloma 🙂 thank you for sending in your RE work. I like that you have mentioned the importance of peace.

  36. ?‍?Timothy?‍?????? says:
