Religious Education

Good morning Year 6 🙂 I’m hoping for less rain than yesterday!

Jesus appears to his Disciples

Jesus appeared to his disciples on a number of occasions after the Resurrection.  He greeted them, shared food with them and then he sent them out to continue the message of the Good News.  Luke tells how, after his Resurrection, Jesus reassures his disciples that they will not be alone.

Then Jesus said to them “These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you – that everything written about me in the Law of Moses, the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled”.  Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures and he said to them, “Thus it is written that the Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations beginning from Jerusalem.  You are witnesses to these things.  And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so, stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

Luke 24: 44-49

In Matthew, Jesus is not only reassuring the disciples but telling of their future mission.

The eleven disciples went to the hill in Galilee where Jesus had told them to go.  When they saw him, they worshipped him even though some of them doubted.  Jesus drew near and said to them, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Go then to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples.  Baptise them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and teach them to obey everything that I have commanded you.  And I will be with you always to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28: 16-20

  1. Art-it could be a drawing or painting if you have the resources
  2. Create a model
  3. Make a poster on the computer (e.g J2E)
  4.  Create a piece of art on the computer
  5.  Write a poem

If you can, take a photo and share your interpretation with us! Remember you can upload it to the school website! We can’t to see what you come up with!

  1. Good morning,
I think the disciples felt honoured and blessed to be one of the only people who had got to see the Messiah.

I think Jesus meant that they had the Holy Spirit in them and would be with Jesus in heaven after their death

Jesus wants everyone to be baptised as Christianity will grow and more people will believe in Christ and follow in his his footsteps which will make the world a better place.

Jesus gave his disciples the mission to ‘Baptise them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit and teach them to obey everything that I have commanded you’.

  2. Miss Gorick says:

Thank you Luke for your thoughtful response ?

  3. Hi Miss Gorick! I don’t usually use j2e.com and I would like to create the poster. Could you please tell me what to tap?

Oh, and as well, it says I am posting comments too quickly.

  4. Miss Carruthers says:

Hi Charles. Go onto j2e.com, click on the LGfL red button and then log in with your USO log in. I think the best one for making a poster is J2e5 as you can use pictures and words and arrange them however you want. Miss Gorick can then log into her j2e account and see your poster, or you can screenshot it and send it in for her to see. I can’t wait to see your finished poster!

  5. Or, I could use PicsArt…

  6. Thank you Miss! But I think I will just stick to PicsArt and Procreate. It’s easier to use this when you are on an iPad.

  8. I think the disciples felt proud and grateful, for they were Jesus’ closest friends and followers.

I think Jesus means that at some point they will be ‘clothed’ with the Holy Spirit, and feel more understanding and wise than before.

    2) I think Jesus meant until you have been clothed with the Holy Spirit which would also take them up to heaven.

    3) Jesus wants everyone to be baptised so they can follow the good ways of Jesus so Earth can be like Heaven.

    4) Jesus told his disciples to baptise everyone so they can also follow in Jesus’ footsteps.

  27. Miss Gorick says:

I like that you have thought of the aim of earth being like heaven ?

  28. Good Before-Noon.

I think the disciples felt glad to know that Jesus was still by there side, and they were still doing good even if he wasn’t with them physically. I think they were happy that even now after completing there mission, Jesus still stayed with them, as a friend and brother. I also think they were self-confident, because they didn’t need Jesus physically to accomplish things, and they knew that Jesus had taught them much, that they didn’t need him anymore, they were ready to be the teachers.

I think Jesus meant that they will be clothed with the power from above (the power of God) — which is the Holy Spirit, because it comes from above, and onto the disciples. He wants them to stay in the city until they have fully seen the Holy Spirit, and understood it’s meaning, as well as the meaning of God himself.

I think Jesus wants everyone to be baptised so that they are free of sins and all darkness, and so they can be filled (or clothed) with the Holy Spirit, and so they are full of good, and they can spread the spirit further and more pure of goodness.

The mission the disciples were given was to baptise everyone they can, and teach them the ways that Jesus has shown them. Jesus has shown them that they are ready to move on without him now, and that their efforts will carry on his name.

  29. Miss Gorick says:

Thank you Ethan, what an informative and in depth answer. I like how you have thought about Jesus being a friend and a brother to the disciples.

  30. 1) i think the disciples felt really inspired, and relieved,as now they know ,that they are not alone and that he will come rise again!

3)Jesus wants everyone to be Baptised because it will wash away all their sins so that they have a’ fresh start’

4)The mission Jesus gave his disciples were to spread the good news that Jesus will rise once again and to know that they are not alone.

    Thankyou!

4)Jesus mission towards his disciples was to share Gods words and love and to explain and retell every miracle he did for when he is gone people continue to believe in him. They did a good job because other wise there would be no Christians in the world. They were also told to baptize all the faithful so they are closer to God and become part of God’s family.

  51. ??GABRIEL:p says:

Good evening Miss, these are my answers:

I think the disciples felt confident, but afraid, because they know Jesus will always be with them, even at the time of death.

I think Jesus meant when the are forgiven of their sins, when the dove come from the sky and took away their sins, when they are all a family.

Jesus wants everyone to be baptised so they can all be a family, and the world unites and treats each other with kindness and respect, and so they can be closer to God.

The mission Jesus gives to his disciples was that they should tell everyone the good news that he was alive, take away their sins and baptise them in Gods words, so they can be a family.

Thank you Gabriel ? it is lovely to think about the world uniting!
