Mini Worlds Science topic

In our Mini Worlds topic, we have been learning about things that are so small, you need a magnifying glass or microscope to see them! Look at the pictures below that show some well known objects and living things under the microscope. Can you guess what each one is and explain why you think that?

    Here are my guesses:-

    1. Skin on a finger ( you can see the pattern when looking carefully at your own finger).

    2. Sugar and Salt crystals: They have in common that they are both crystals and they have the colour white. The sugar crystals look like they all have the same shape and the salt crystals don’t.

    3. Pattern: I can see lines going from left to write across and lines that are going from top to bottom.

    4. Snowflake: It looks like a star.

    5. I think it is the middle of an orange ?.

    6. It is a hair.

  4. Wow. What good thinking. I can’t wait to see if you are right!

  5. 1. Finger because it has a pattern and people have it.
    2. Sugar crystals and salt crystals, they are the same because they both look the same but they are different because they do not have the same taste.
    3. Basket because it has the thread to it.
    5. Orange because it is juicy and orange.
    6. Stick because it has the the lines that look like stick lines.

  6. 1.A fingerprint
2.They are both the same because they are white but the difference is that the salt crystals are different shapes and sizes and sugar crystals are the same size.

Well done for all your predictions! The first one is the fingerprint on a finger. If you look very closely at yours then you’ll be able to see all the little lines. Did you know that everyone has a different pattern on their fingers? Compare yours with people in your house.
The last one is a hair. Thankfully our hairs look thinner in real life, we wouldn’t want to have sticks for hair!
