We started looking at subtraction today.
We used manipulatives to help us work out the answers to some simple subtraction questions.
Our focus was to show how we had worked it out. Many of us arranged our counters in arrays so it was easier to count.

You can check your answers by adding.
Column subtraction is easy and
you can check your answer by doing column addition
For a subtraction like 8 or 9 you could do this simpler way which I will show below:
If you have 53-8=? you could do:
53-10=43
then +2 to your answer:
43+2=45- simple!
