Our new Geography topic is ‘The United Kingdom’.
The United Kingdom is the political union of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
What do you already know about the countries, cities, traditions and political landscape of the UK, Year 6?
I know that London is the most populated city in the United Kingdom. Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland. The national animal of England is the Lion, Scotland is the unicorn and Wales is the Dragon.

I know that the flower of England is the tudor rose, thistle is Scotland, daffodil is Wales and a four-leaved clover is Northern Ireland.

The UK includes Scotland , Wales , Northern Island and England . Fun fact all the countries in the UK have a flower representing them.
I already know that the UK is home to: Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The flag, called the Union Jack/Flag is inspired from the flags of England, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland. All these countries have a symbolic flower which represents their country.

Wales: Daffodil

The UK is the only place in Europe/the world that uses the currency of pounds and pence (£+p). The UK is home to 67 million people.
The Union Flag is made up of the St Andrew Flag the St Georges Flag and the St Patrick Flag it also has lots of famous landmarks such as : The Elizabeth Tower ( which lots of people think is Big Ben but Big Ben is actually the Bell inside the Elizabeth Tower ) , the Shard and the Tower Bridge.
I know that as one of our london traditions we celebrate notting hill carnival (august) a massive,internationally renowned caribbean carnival spanning the august bank holiday. sunday roasts are also very well known in london choosing to sit in a pub accompanied by your close friends and family.last but not least AFTERNOON TEA!!!! we love our tea,while often considered a tourist activity,formal and informal tea remains a staple british custom for comfort.
I know that the Union Jack is made out of the English,Scottish and Northen Irish flag.
I know that the UK is a sovereign state compromised of England, Scotland , Wales and northern Island with a population over 80 % concentrated in England. One of the traditons is the Afternoon tea in which they like to discuss the weather, local gossip,politics and televisions shows.
I already know that Wales was already part of the united kingdom so it is not on the union Jack.
I did tea because Britain is famous for its tea

I know that London is very populated and that it has all different signs representing the city. In the UK, there are four flags and they go together to make its flag.

In know that in the UK we use pounds and pence and that the Union flag (more commonly known as the Union Jack) is made up of flags of England, Scotland and the republic of Ireland. Wales is not on there as at the time of making (in the 1600’s) it was part of England.
