Hello Class 5!

Each Wednesday I will post your Creative Curriculum Homework on the Year 5 blog!
Every week the homework task will focus on a different subject. You will also have weekly Maths and English homework which you can find on the Year 5 Home Learning page.

Our very first topic for Year 5 is Invaders and Settlers. This is a brilliant topic which continues on your learning from Year 4 about the Romans and looks at when the Romans left Britain and what happened next.

Look at the questions below and then answer all three questions on the blog.

  1. 1 . Settlers our the people who defend their land and protect it when invaders attack

    2.There are no fun facts about Anglo- Saxons and Vikings, because they were fierce people who fought many battles during their rule of Britain. The Vikings who are also called Norsemen who came from Norway, Sweden and Denmark and invaded Britain .

    3. I would like to learn about the weapons and boats they used during the wars.

    I wonder if your view on the Anglo-Saxons and the Vikings will change at the end of our topic or remain the same?
    I think it would be very interesting to learn about any weapons they may have used and their boats!

  3. 1. An Invader is a group of people who invade other countries, while a settler is someone who has made a home in a country and protects himself against Invaders.

    2.Viking means ‘a pirate riad ”, whitch is a fitting name as they where fearsome warriors and often raided monasteries for treasure.

    3. I want to know what viking means and more about them.

    – Invaders are a person or group that attack a country or a place.
    – Settlers take control of a country.

    What are the Anglo Saxons famous for?
    – Anglo Saxons is famous because they began to invade Britain while the Romans were still in control. The Anglo Saxons were tall, brave men, armed with swords and spears and round shields. They loved fighting and were very fierce.
    Q3)
    Why did the Anglo Saxons invade Britain and not another country or place?

    A great fact about the Anglo-Saxons… learning about them will continue on nicely after all of our work on the Romans in Year 4!

  7. 1) Invaders tend to be on the move, with violence, conquering land and enslaving other people. Settlers are quieter, normally live in a community in the same place for a long time.

    2) Vikings were from the far North, what today is Denmark, Norway and Sweden. They were expert sailors, pirates and explorers, between the 8th and the 11th century.

    3) I would like to learn about their tools and how they shaped them into awesome weapons.

  10. I think invaders mean people who want to rule a country that doesn’t belong to them. And I think settlers are people who move with a group of people to live in a new country or area.

    Yesterday I was quite sporty so i couldn’t answer the blog. Though today I can. I hope you are okay with my ideas.

    1) I think the word ‘ invaders’ mean a variety of people entering another’s territory.
    For example, if there were two kingdoms and on one side they decide to attack they will have to enter the others territory and invade. They might achieve their goal and invade successfully or they might not and return to there own territory.
    I think the word ‘ settlers’ means that they are going into an area.
    They would conquer the place and come into that area to live in or stay.

    2) Did you know …………
    The Scots won against the vikings 750 years ago?
    Anglo-Saxons were a group of angry farmer warriors?

    3) I would like to learn about the Viking’s ship and more about how and why people invaded.

    I hope we will learn about this.

    2.Did you know England wasn’t really one country for a long time,Anglo saxons ruled a lot of kingdoms across the land.

    3.Later on in this topic I’d like to learn about their unique boats and how they work.

  18. 1. Settlers are people who move to a place to live there calmly with no harm to the other people there. Invaders move also to a new place to steal others people richness and land but if you try to stop them they will kill you.
    2. The Anglo saxons gave us the names of the week like Monday meaning moon day.
    Vikings didn’t have horn helmets.
    3.I would like to learn about
    viking armor.

    Invaders:
    A person or a group that raids countries by making them obey their ruled, ect.
    Settlers:
    A person who moves with a group of others to live in a new area or country.
    I want to learn on what materials they used to build weapons and what kind of food they ate.
    Fun facts about Vikings:
    •Vikings didn’t wear horned helmets
    •Vikings were known for their excellent hygiene
    •Vikings used a unique liquid to start fires
    Fun facts about Anglo Saxons:
    The Anglo Saxons enjoyed horse racing, hunting, feasting and music making. They also enjoyed board games such as chess, draughts and dice.

    Well done, I can tell you did a lot of research! These are all great facts! A good idea learning about the kind of food the Anglo-Saxons used to eat, I am sure we can investigate that in class!

    Settlers are people that are peaceful and don’t attack.

    The Saxons are people who sailed across the North Sea and some got invited the Britons, to defend Britain from other invaders and some did not.

    I want to know what the Saxons did to change Britain?

  26. Question 1 – Invaders and settlers means when you try to take over a country and setters mean that if Im on the sofa and I’m getting comfy that means settling

  28. Invaders mean people who invade, then there are settlers who defend the island and land. The Anglo-Saxons gave England its name. Before it was called Britannia. In Italy I saw this movie about the Anglo Saxons and the Vikings. I would like to learn how they made their houses and how the lived like.
