We have had such an exciting week! On Tuesday, we visited Broadstairs beach in Kent. We have been learning about coastal features in Geography, where we used aerial photographs to identify features such as the beach, cliffs, harbour and the sea. We were so excited to be able to see all of these things during our trip.

When we arrived at Broadstairs, we got into small groups, in readiness for our sandcastle competition. We waited patiently as parents ran to the sea to collect water for us. We worked really well in our groups and created some brilliant castles! Some of us used rocks, pretty seashells and seaweed to decorate our sandcastle creations. After this, we sat together to think about our surroundings. We created our own map of what we could see in relation to where we were sitting. We noticed the steep cliffs and the pier and could locate them in our own maps.

After this, Miss Carruthers took us down to the seafront to jump over the waves. The sea was cold and filled with seaweed but lots of us absolutely loved being able to paddle in the sea with our friends. After this, we trotted down the shore to a more sheltered area. Here, we took part in a beach scavenger hunt with Mrs Duffy. We tried so hard to find everything on the list and became quite competitive with our scores! Some of us scored well over 100 points with our interesting finds.

We came back to our area and played a few beach games. We played beach boules, made more sandcastles, and also played Hot Potato. We listened well to our teachers, and had lots of fun whilst playing with the sand, although it was very hot on our feet!

We ended our trip with a really special treat… ice cream! We sat and chatted with our friends as we enjoyed such a delicious treat. After this, we packed up all of our things ready for the journey back to school. It was so fun to be able to spend the day at the seaside with all of our friends. We were also so pleased to see so many of our family members join us at the beach.

We had such a great day! We would like to thank the SVPA for funding the trip, and we would also like to say a big thank you to the parents and carers that helped us on our journey and those that joined us at beautiful Broadstairs. Thank you to Mrs Duffy and Miss Carruthers for organising such fun activities for us to take part in.

Well done for such a fantastic trip, Year 2. We hope that you had a great time!
