We have started our new topic, Celebrations Around the World! There is so much for us to discover as we explore different festivals, traditions, costumes and the many ways families come together to celebrate special occasions.

We began by sharing some of the celebrations that are familiar to us, including Christmas, birthdays and Baptisms. The children enjoyed talking about their own experiences, sharing what they know and noticing that celebrations can look different for different families and cultures.

To get our topic underway, we turned our attention to Bonfire Night! We talked about why people celebrate Bonfire Night, the colourful fireworks that light up the night sky and how fireworks are also used to mark the beginning of a New Year.

Inspired by our discussion, the children created their own firework displays using PVA glue and lots of colourful glitter. They experimented with different colours and patterns to make their fireworks sparkle, carefully applying the glue and sprinkling the glitter to bring their creations to life. As well as having lots of fun getting creative, this was a lovely opportunity to strengthen their fine motor skills and develop their hand control.

We think our finished firework displays look wonderful and can’t wait to share them with you!
