This week, we were very lucky to welcome Councillor Karen Scarborough, the Lord Mayor of Westminster, to our school. The Lord Mayor came to meet us and share some very exciting news with the children.
The children were invited to design a Christmas card for the Lord Mayor, which will be sent to people across Westminster, around England and even around the world! One of the children’s designs will be selected to become the Lord Mayor’s official Christmas card, making this a very special opportunity for our Year 2 pupils.
During her visit, the Lord Mayor spoke to the children about the Christmas card challenge and answered their questions. She also shared the exciting news that she will be travelling to Norway to help with the Trafalgar Square Christmas Tree, which is a wonderful tradition connecting Westminster with Norway.
Inspired by her visit, we began planning and designing our Christmas cards throughout the week. Then, on Friday afternoon, the children created their official card designs, carefully painting them using beautiful watercolours.
We were so impressed by the creativity, care and enthusiasm shown by everyone. The children worked incredibly hard and produced some fantastic designs. It was wonderful to see their ideas come to life through their artwork.
Well done, Year 2! We are incredibly proud of you all and can’t wait to see which design is chosen!
