This week was Anti-bullying Week 2022 and the theme was ‘Reach Out’ with kindness.

We began the week with an assembly all about what bullying week means and which behaviours are considered to be bullying.

Our school also looked very colourful on Monday because it was Odd Socks Day! We all wore odd socks to remind ourselves and each other that everyone is unique and special, and we should never be unkind to others about their differences.

In class we discussed the people we could talk to if we were experiencing bullying or saw someone being bullied. This could be a trusted adult such as a teacher, coach or parent, our other family members such as aunties, uncles and cousins as well as our friends.

It is important to reach out to someone and talk about anything that might be worrying you. Year 4 also discussed stereotypes and learnt that these are harmful thoughts about how someone might behave or what they might do based on how they look. We explored different stereotypes and talked about how they are harmful and could lead to bullying.

On Wednesday we also had a special assembly all about online bullying, where it might happen and the responsibility we have to spread kindness by behaving on our apps and games just as we would in real life. We explored different scenarios of what people might say or do online which we would need to TAG (tell a grown-up) about.

Finally, to end the week we created our anti-bullying ‘Reach Out’ pledge. Our pledge is a set of promises of what we will personally do at school to stop bullying if we see it, check in with others and help each other to spread kindness.

Well done Year 4 for all of your hard work this week and brilliant ideas in our discussions about bullying.

Why do you think it is so important to reach out if you are being bullied or see bullying happening?

It’s important that we reach out. If you’re getting bullied or someone else is being bullied reach out because it will stop people doing it ,no one will feel sad and then the person that bullied you will not bully you anymore because they now know that it’s the wrong choice. Also I love the posters! They are amazing!
