This week is Art week and we’ll be combining all of our works of Art to create a giant Year 5 piece. The theme for this project is ‘pride of Britain’ and The October Gallery have very generously offered us the opportunity to work with them to create art inspired by their own collection. We have really enjoyed exploring what the British values mean to us: democracy, rule of law, respect and tolerance and individual liberty.

We began our workshop by looking at the gallery’s current exhibition and making observations of the abstract work on display.

Using the colours red and blue (to represent Britain) as well as black (to mimic the work in the gallery), we had a go at creating our own works of art. We used techniques such as flicking and dabbing to create different effects and we experimented with expressing ourselves without even looking at the paper.

Take a look at some of our completed works of art! We can’t wait to use these works of art to create an architectural piece of art that is celebrating all things British in this coronation year!
