Reception have been learning about lots of Celebrations Around the World during this term’s topic!

We have been learning about Diwali – the festival of light.

Diwali is a celebration, celebrated by Hindu’s every year. It is the festival of light. We found out lots of interesting facts about Diwali together. People decorate their houses with candles and lights inside. They make colourful Rangoli patterns outside of their house to add to the decorations. People make delicious food and buy special sweets to enjoy eating together. It’s important to look and dress the part so people wear their new clothes and some like to put mehndi on their hands and arms! Everyone celebrates together by watching the magical fireworks!

We made our own Diwali lamps by using clay, paint, glitter and sequins! We can’t wait to add a candle to our holder. We also developed our fine motor skills by trying out our own Mehndi patterns and colourful Rangoli patterns too!
