I have been so impressed again this week with Class Five’s fantastic work! You are all working so incredibly hard and I am very proud of you all!
This week we have continued looking at our class text, Tom’s Midnight Garden. The work you have all produced has been fantastic and I have loved seeing all of your creative ideas!

Below are a few examples of some of your wonderful work…

We began the week by discussing different themes we could identify from the text. With these ideas we designed a new front cover for the book which showed these themes…

William – I drew a tree standing alone which gives the feeling of isolation. I drew a grandfather clock as I think they are lonely and still things. A clock chiming in an empty room gives me the feeling of isolation.

Holly – My front cover has the lightning strikes from the storm. It also has the tree from when it fell and is stood back up again. My front cover also has the grandfather clock with its wrong time.  I also have the car from the beginning from when tom had to go away from his home to avoid getting the measles. These items link to the themes of isolation and time. Tom was sent away to avoid catching the measles, this is isolation. Time because you have the clock on the front cover which strikes thirteen at midnight.

We then planned and wrote some brilliant diary entries as one of the characters from the text. You can read some examples of these below. We all worked hard to ensure we used consistent tense throughout our writing and added lots of description to retell the events in chronological order.

Well done Class 5! Another week of wonderful work! I hope you have a lovely and relaxing weekend… You deserve it!
From Miss Lee 🙂
