This week we had a brilliant lesson with Miss Evans to begin our new Computing unit: ‘Creating an alien landscape’!

Before we began, we discussed copyright and how to select images appropriately according to their licences. We learnt that images which are not under the creative common licence can not be used by anybody without permission. Miss Evans showed us some websites and tools we could use on Google images to find images under the Creative Commons licence which means we can them for our lesson.

Later, Miss Evans introduced us to Pixlr, the photo editing application which can be used to manipulate images. As our Spring Term topic is Extreme Earth, we used images of Volcanoes to edit as we are going to be learning about volcanic eruptions very soon!

We then learnt how to retrieve, edit and save our work before choosing an image and having a go at manipulating it themselves. The class enjoyed changing the brightness, hue and saturation of the images as well as adding their own drawings to represent lava and ash.

At the end we shared our work saved in the shared folder. It was so fun to see how creative we have been and how many different ways he had managed to edit the volcano images!

Next week we will be continuing with our Computing unit and explore other tools on Pixlr independently to see how our images can be manipulated further…

Thank you Miss Evans for visiting us and for such a fun lesson!

What did you learn from our photo manipulation Computing lesson?
