In Year 6 we have been designing and creating our very own ‘pop-up’ books!

Firstly, we studied Robert James Sabuda who is a children’s pop-up book artist and paper engineer. His recent books, such as those retelling the stories of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland are amazing!

After studying Robert Sabuda, we designed our own story following the set criteria:

•Make a children’s book based on animal freedom
•It should include an interactive element e.g. pop-ups or ‘lift the flaps’
•It should be attractive and appealing to read

Next, we learnt about the art of paper folding. We learnt three paper folds:

  • Parallelogram fold

  • Internal stand

  • V fold

After practising the different folds, we decided which fold would best suit our design and then we got making!

Come back in a couple of weeks to see our finished books!
