Over the past week, we have been studying WW2 poetry. We studied a variety of moving poems written by those who lived (and some who sadly died) during the war from 1939-1945.

Studying poetry has really sparked a curiosity for history and has brought to live the harsh realities of war. We have found that poetry is a wonderful way of experiencing the lives and emotions of the past.

Next week, in honour of Remembrance Sunday, we will be studying poems by the famous Wilfred Owen and writing our own to show respect to the soldiers who died during WW1 and WW2.

We also then performed our poems ensuring that we read with expression to help the listener become immersed in our writing.

Please take a look below at the poems we have written so far (more will be uploaded tomorrow!)

He was panicking-what should he do?

His mind swirled in disbelief,

Could this really be true?

He took a deep breath of bravery,

And he knew it would work out.

With love and sorrow,

He clenched his fists,

He ran without a doubt.

Bloody footprints flooded the shore,

But they knew they could do no more.

One by one the men got hit,

Grief-stricken men; ones that fought hardcore.

They didn’t just die in vein,

We remember them with poppies placed on the plain.
