This week has been such an exciting and fun Enterprise Week in Year 2. On Monday, we decided to make magic wand bookmarks. We came up with lots of creative name ideas and, after voting as a class, chose the name WonderWand. We even used our maths and statistics skills to create a tally and count the votes. Next, we designed our own logos and voted again to choose the one that best represented our company.
On Tuesday, we worked on catchy slogans and chose our favourite, “Wave your wand and let the magic begin!” We thought it really captured our company’s idea, as our bookmarks are designed to help you magically transport into the story you’re reading. We also made persuasive posters to advertise our product and explain why people should buy it. The winning poster was shown in assembly, and three children proudly presented our product and shared reasons to buy it. We would like to say a big thank you to Radiah, who works for the Civil Service, for coming in to tell us all about her job. She explained how she was a special constable for eight years and was even recognised with a shiny gold medal from the Queen. She is now working in the Ministry of Defence. We learned so much from her visit and felt inspired.
On Wednesday, we each brought £3 to school and could only buy three products, so we had to think carefully before placing our orders. It was Design Day, and we spent the whole day crafting and decorating our bookmarks. Our parents came in to help during the afternoon, which made the day extra special. A big thank you to Elena, who also visited us on Wednesday. She told us all about her work as a lawyer and researcher. She even showed us her books and shared how she lived in China for a year and learned the language. We were amazed to hear that she speaks Italian, Spanish, and Chinese! We had so many questions about learning new languages and what it’s like to live in other countries. Altogether, we made an amazing 96 magic wand bookmarks.
On Thursday, we focused on packing our orders and continued learning about money in maths. We explored the value of different coins, recognised amounts, and practised using different coins to make the same total. In PSHE, we learned that money is important and used to buy things we need and want, but that needs and wants are not the same. We also discussed spending and saving wisely, and remembered that God’s love, and the love we share with others, is more valuable than anything we could buy.
By Friday, we had sent all our orders out and reflected on our busy week by writing a recount of everything we had done. We also evaluated our work and thought carefully about what we might improve if we were to make our products again. We had such a fantastic week and ended our circle time by sharing our thoughts about what we would like to be in the future. The children had so many wonderful ideas and dreams for what they might grow up to do.
Finally, a huge thank you to all the parents who joined us throughout the week to support and inspire the children. Your help, time, and enthusiasm made our Enterprise Week extra special and something the children will always remember.
