We had a very successful Enterprise week this year in Year 3! We made bags from paper plates and we secured lots of orders, therefore lots of profit, which we can spend on books for the book corner!
On Monday, we started the week by deciding on the product. We purchased paper plates in advance and decided to make this the centrepiece of our product so we had to decide what to do with our paper plates. We made a shortlist of paper plate insects, paper plate photo frames, paper plate fans, paper plate bags and paper plate fish tanks. The paper bags gave us the opportunity to personalise the product for our customers because we could offer designs of a cute animal, a football badge and a silly face.
The vote for paper plates was unanimous and the last democratic decision we had to make was the company name. There were some great names to choose from: Bagorus, Bags of Colour, Sparkle and Shine, Cobobags and the winning name, Funbags! To make it easier to track our votes, we made tally charts and converted the results into bar charts. We each came up with an idea for a logo and a slogan and the slogan we went with was ‘Bring the fun!’
On Tuesday, we had the privilege of a parent speaker, Elena, to discuss her role as a lawyer. We then shifted our focus back to our product and we designed posters to advertise the product. The posters would be displayed in Wednesday’s assembly so we knew we had to make them bold, catchy and colourful. Wednesday’s assembly was a roaring success because several of us presented the product to the rest of the school and by lunchtime, we had our orders – 83 of them!! There was a lot of work to be done!
Thursday was devoted to making to product and it wasn’t easy to fulfil all the orders (especially as we had to make each product in specific colours!) but with a lot of perseverance and resilience, we managed it! It was very important we hit the 3:15pm deadline to make the orders because on Friday morning, our job was to distribute the orders to all the different classes (as well as receive our own orders from the other classes).
We calculated that after spending £29.55 on resources (the glue, the plates, the beads, the feathers and the pompoms) and gathering an income of £83, our profit was an amazing £53.45! We are going to use the money to spend on the book corner but we’ll decide as a class exactly what we’ll buy. Year 3 worked extremely hard this week and did us all proud to produce so many brilliant paper bags! Well done Year 3!
