We’ve had a great Enterprise Week in Year 6.

We voted to make origami frogs (in a break from Year 6 tradition!) and we’re glad we did because they were very popular indeed!

We started by thinking of  names for our company and then voting for our favourite one. The winner was Sofia M with  ‘Mr Hoppy’s Flying Frogs!’ Then we had great fun, designing company logos and then voting for our favourite one. Well done to Joseph for his winning company logo design.

Next, it was time to practice using persuasive language to create adverts and advertising posters for our product. We learnt about superlatives, alliteration and rhetorical questions and then wrote ideas for catchy slogans to persuade others to buy our products.. This time, Miss Siswick chose the winners. Well done to Molly and Phillyppe who wrote the most persuasive adverts which they shared  in the whole school assembly and well done to Florence for her winning advertising poster.

We must have been very persuasive because we had more than 100 orders from the other classes! All of  Year 6 also ordered at least one so we had a busy two days making and decorating our products.

We have learnt so much this week about what it’s like to set up and run a business and what it’s like to do paid work!

In PSHE, we have been learning more how to earn and manage money. We also had a fascinating workshop led by volunteers from Barclays Bank about managing our money and avoiding hidden charges, debt, theft and gambling in real life and online.

We welcomed three parent visitors who taught us so much more about the world of work by telling us what it’s like to work as risk manager, a lawyer and a  business owner. Many thanks to them all for giving up their time to speak to us and answer our questions; we really appreciate it.

We have  been learning more about democracy through voting for every decision throughout the process and then agreeing to the decision voted for by the majority of the class. We have also been using all of our  learning powers throughout the week.

After we had paid back our 0% interest £30 business loan  (which was spent on card, stickers and googly eyes) we ended up with a healthy profit of  £108!

We will vote on what to buy with the money that we earned once everyone has had a chance to make suggestions.

Please let me know what you would like to spend the money on in the comments, Year 6.
Have a lovely half term, everyone!
