Today we celebrated Hello Yellow to support Mental Health Awareness Day. Everyone came to school wearing something yellow, and we had some wonderful conversations about why we chose this colour. The children made a brilliant connection to our learning from The Colour Monster, remembering that yellow represents happiness.

Throughout the day, we explored what makes us feel happy. We sang songs, spent time playing outdoors, and talked about helpful strategies for when we’re not feeling so happy.

We also explored the theme of senses and self-awareness, thinking about how we can use our bodies to understand and respond to the world around us. The children identified the different parts of the body linked to the five senses and what each of them helps us do.

To bring this to life, we used our senses to explore a range of different foods including basil, mint, crisps, and jelly babies. The children had so much fun describing how each item smelled, felt, and tasted. It was a great way to understand how sensory experiences can impact our emotions and wellbeing.

Later, we enjoyed drumming in music, which brought a huge smile to everyone’s face. Music is something that brings us together as a class and always lifts our mood!

It was a joyful, reflective day full of important conversations and activities that helped us think about our feelings, our senses, and the things that make us happy.
