Today Year 2 took part in supporting World Mental Health Day by wearing yellow.

As a class, we looked at what this day means and spoke about the ways in which we can support others. We practiced different breathing techniques such as the Rainbow and Traingle, thinking and focusing on our breath. Afterwards, we spoke about how these activities made us feel. Lots of us felt very calm!

We looked at a lovely painting by Claude Monet called ‘Sunrise’. We learnt that this is Monet’s interpretation of what he found powerful and beautiful in 1870s France. We discussed what we find beautiful about our country, from the history and geography, to the weather! We recreated our own versions of Sunrise using watercolour, thinking about and reflecting on what we find most beautiful here.

As a circle time activity, we spoke about our feelings and the fact that experiencing different worries and emotions is completely natural. We know that sharing our feelings can ease our worries and help to give us a solution. We practised our listening skills and showed our respect to our friends by listening to their thoughts and feelings, considering ways in which we can support and show care for our friends.

Well done for a fantastic week, Year 2. Well done for being so thoughtful and caring on such an important day. Happy Hello Yellow Day!
