On our first day back to school, we were lucky enough to visit the Palace of Westminster, commonly known as the Houses of Parliament. After a fire drill and two security checks we were on our way to explore the Robing Room, House of Lords, Houses of Commons, the Great Hall and St. Stephen’s Chapel.

We were in awe of all the magnificent paintings and statues on display throughout the building. We learnt that there is a large painting depicting the Battle of Waterloo, which is covered by a white cloth when the French Ambassador visits as a sign of respect.

This visit has inspired the class to learn more about ‘ping pong’ (not the sport) between the House of Commons and House of Lords when it comes to passing a Bill as an Act.

For security purposes, we were unable to take many photographs but we had a wonderful day!
