In Class 5 we are really enjoying out Invaders and Settlers topic.

This week in history we were wondering how we know so much about the Anglo-Saxons when they lived SO long ago…

We learnt about Sutton Hoo, where two early medieval cemeteries that date from the 6th to 7th centuries were found. Archaeologists have been excavating the area since 1939.

Some photographs of the artefacts found here appeared in our classroom. We hunted for them and looked carefully at each item. We began to think about who may have been buried here and gave reasons to support our ideas.

We then learnt the different between primary and secondary sources and why both are useful in piecing together clues from the past.
